This Too Shall Pass
The first scene of The Clearing episode 7 features Amy going over the legal battle she lost after abandoning Max in the car by herself during the day. Moving forward to the present timeline, Wayne is sending Max back home whilst attending to Billy and Freya. Before leaving, Freya attempts to speak with her, but Max isn’t interested.
Freya leaves to speak with Adrienne regarding her decision to restart The Kindred. Adrienne, on the other hand, warns her of the consequences of speaking out. A flashback shows Adrienne stopping by at the psychiatric facility, and helping Freya leave after losing Max.
Freya attempts to prove to Joe that they are making efforts to reestablish The Kindred house. However, the house is empty when they get there. Thereafter, Joe hears the true story from her, who reveals that they were lying and that Adrienne is not suffering from Alzheimer’s. He is disappointed because he had the power to put her in jail.
We are transported back in time to when Freya initially left the psychiatric hospital and had dinner with Wayne. They end up having sex. That evening, Freya questions Wayne about his capacity to see their eventual reconciliation and future together. He says that he has to protect Max and he appears rather hesitant.
Joe discovers a photo of a vehicle parked around the lodge in 1989. The car in question had been registered under Colin’s partner’s maiden name. He questions Colin after putting two and two together. According to Colin, Adrienne pressured him, and he was powerless.
Meanwhile, Abigail extends an invitation to Adrienne to attend her wedding, and everybody responds differently to her presence. Joe takes the chance to speak up, telling everyone at the gathering that Adrienne is lying about having a medical condition which means she belongs in prison. Freya panics and runs away after Anton runs on stage and punches Joe.
Ebonie, Anton’s partner, introduces herself to Freya while they are in the vehicle and she claims to be one of the initiates. Anton arrives at the spot and announces that Adrienne is prepared to leave just before Freya gets to ask Ebonie about what she said.
After spending the day with Wayne, Freya and Billy go back home. The two go to the lake as usual, wherein Freya attempts to hold her breath underwater for as long as she can. After she shows up from the water, Billy disappears, which causes her to go into a state of complete panic. Freya screams, trying to find Billy and episode 7 comes to a close.
The Episode Review
As we approach The Clearing’s penultimate episode, everything begins to come together as Freya attempts to involve Joe by informing him of the fact that Adrienne has restarted The Kindred. While that is going on, she continues to do all that she can to keep Adrienne away from Billy by providing him with protection.
Episode 7 is strong and it is exactly what the show needs going towards the season 1 finale. The conflict involving Freya and Adrienne keeps getting more dramatic. It will be interesting to see how the situation is resolved in the final episode given that Billy is missing and Adrienne is making every effort to restart The Kindred.
