‘The Boogeyman’ Movie Release Date, Trailer & Where To Watch

The Boogeyman

Just when you thought it was safe to look in the closet comes The Boogeyman, an upcoming horror movie that is based on a work of fiction by celebrated novelist Stephen King.

Will the movie be as scary as King’s original short story? We don’t know but all will be revealed when The Boogeyman steps out of the closet on the movie’s expected release date.

What is the plot of The Boogeyman?

In the original work of fiction, a man named Lester Billings talked to his psychiatrist about the titular closet dweller who he claimed was responsible for the death of his three children.

The movie adaptation deviates from the source material and places its focus on the children themselves and their desperate attempts to convince their father that a malevolent entity has taken root in their home. The creature, which feeds on the pain and fear of this grieving family, is believed to be responsible for the death of the children’s mother.

It’s not unusual for filmmakers to deviate from King’s work in their adaptations but here’s hoping it’s better than The Lawnmower Man and The Running Man, which barely resembled the author’s acclaimed horror stories.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

High school student Sadie Harper and her younger sister, Sawyer, are still reeling from the recent death of their mother. They’re not getting much support from their father, Will, a therapist who’s dealing with his own intense pain. When a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their house seeking help, he leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims.

When is The Boogeyman being released?

The movie was set to debut on Hulu but it will now be released straight into cinemas on June 2, 2023.

There are lots of other Stephen King adaptations on the way over the next couple of years, including a big-screen outing for his vampire novel Salem’s Lot and a cinematic retelling of his most recent work, the fantasy novel Fairy Story.

Who stars in The Boogeyman?

Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets) and Vivien Lyra Blair (Bird Box) take on the roles of the girls who believe the Boogeyman has taken up residence in their family home. Chris Messina (Birds Of Prey) stars as their grieving father.

David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad), Madison Hu (Voyagers), and Marin Ireland (The Umbrella Academy) are also among the cast of this upcoming terror tale.

Who directs The Boogeyman?

The Boogeyman has been directed by Rob Savage, whose previous credits include Dashcam, Soulmates, and the terrifying Zoom movie, Host.
