The Auditors – K-drama Episode 11 Recap & Review

Episode 11

Our ‘The Auditors’ episode 11 recap and review begins with the death of the former president. As company officials and the bereaved family prepare for the funeral, Sin Cha-il comes across a report from one of the company’s largest shareholders regarding the suspicious activities of Archcle Design, an architecture firm working with JU Construction.

The report raises a reasonable suspicion that Archcle Design is a shell company created by the former president for his slush fund. Sin Cha-il begins an investigation because, given that the paper company continued operating even after the president fell ill, it’s possible that he was murdered. However, he needs to gather sufficient evidence to convince the family to perform an autopsy.

As the audit team starts operations, a battle for the company’s leadership ensues. A new character enters the scene: Dae-woong, Head Choi, the newly appointed head of the purchasing department.

Through their investigations, the audit team discovered that the CEO of Archcle Design, an American citizen, had only lent his name to the company on paper, while the real operations were taking place in South Korea. The audit team has only a few days to investigate the case before the cremation occurs. Over time, Sin Cha-il notices Dae-Woong and Head Choi growing close, placing Dae-Woong on his radar of potential suspects.

Meanwhile, Dae-woong and Se-woong engage in an all-out war for the position of president. Dae-Woong invites the company directors to dine with him, attempting to coax them into supporting him, but he senses something is off when they don’t respond as favourably as they did before.

The audit team began investigating the purchasing department, identifying an anomaly where excessive funds were allocated to a construction project that didn’t even qualify under the government’s building regulations. They find a link between Head Choi and the suspicious project. It becomes evident that Head Choi is involved with the secret slush fund. Sin Cha-il follows him, eventually catching him bribing the undersecretary and snapping a picture of the act.

At the same time, Dae-Woong is called in for a police investigation since he was the last person to visit the president before his death. This adds another reason for Sin Cha-il to suspect Dae-Woong. Se-Woong, meanwhile, is quite content with the turn of events in his favour. To make matters worse for Dae-Woong, he discovers he’s lost favour with the undersecretary as well.

Soon, Sin Cha-il learns that the president had ordered Head Choi to work closely with Dae-woong. He then interviews Head Choi, during which it becomes clear that Head Choi was involved with the slush funds. Knowing his cover is blown, Head Choi leaves to meet the real person behind the slush fund, with Cha-il hot on his heels. At the same time, Seo-jin and Han-soo each follow the other two suspects, Dae-woong and Se-woong, but Han-soo loses sight of Se-woong.

Meanwhile, Cha-il follows Head Choi into an abandoned building, where both are attacked. The building is set on fire, and as smoke fills the air, the two victims lie unconscious. The attacker is revealed to be Se-woong.

The Episode Review

This episode was quite predictable since we could gauge that Se-woong might be the real culprit, especially considering his past behaviour. As one of the characters says, Dae-woong might be “rough around the edges,” but he’s not a murderer. He is a morally ambiguous character in the show, but except for the initial two episodes, he has not been portrayed as evil.

On the other hand, Se-woong seemed too good to be true, and though his intentions might have been good, over time, we could easily sense something was off about him that didn’t align with his outward appearance. Se-woong’s expressions were a complete giveaway, something the show intended for viewers to understand.

Therefore, the show’s main focus has been on unravelling how the crime occurred rather than who committed it. In that regard, we are still left to discover why Se-woong did what he did and who he truly is. With that, we end our ‘The Auditors’ episode 11 recap and review. We’ll see you in the next one!
