Episode 10
Our ‘The Auditors’ episode 10 recap and review begins with Han-soo at Assistant Manager Moon’s house. Soon, Seo-jin and Cha-il also arrive, and we find that it was Moon who uploaded the pictures.
Despite having a good score on hiring tests, he was unable to get a good job due to his academic background. So, he forged his college diploma to get a job at JU Construction as an experiment to see if it would make any difference. Sadly, it did. Due to the audit that could have exposed his false diploma, he reluctantly decided to expose Seo-jin and Dae-woong’s relationship to create a diversion. They later recover the documents he had hidden in his house, as he had lied about being attacked by thugs.
Later that night, Seo-jin, Han-soo, and Cha-il look through the documents and finally find Assistant Manager Jeong’s altered marks. The next day, Moon and Jeong are dismissed. Auditor Seo Hee-Jin informs the president of no foul play regarding Seo-jin’s case.
Here, we also discover that although Dae-woong had bought a house for Seo-jin and her mother when their house was destroyed in their poor neighborhood, Seo-jin had signed an IOU and has been paying back the principal amount along with interest to Dae-woong.
The results of the audit are clearly not what Se-woong had expected. He is also frustrated about his decreasing popularity regarding the company’s growth while Dae-woong closes a huge construction deal again. Elsewhere, Moon almost kills himself walking through moving traffic, but Cha-il saves him and reassures him that he can start anew. Here, another challenge crops up as Jeong attempts to commit suicide at the office. She is taken to the hospital.
Meanwhile, Se-woong visits his older brother, who seems to have regained consciousness but hasn’t recovered completely. Meanwhile, Cha-il, Han-soo, and Seo-jin try to visit Jeong in the hospital but aren’t let through. Later, the president initiates an audit against Shin Cha-il in response to Jeong’s father’s complaint against him.
Auditor Seo Hee-Jin begins the audit against Cha-il, where it seems that his auditing techniques have been coercive. She visits Jeong in the hospital, who also validates this fact. Elsewhere, Se-woong feels cornered and alone as the directors seem to favor Dae-woong.
The next day, in another interview, we find that an employee of a former company that Shin Cha-il used to work for had committed suicide during the audit process. It’s assumed to be due to Shin Cha-il’s coercive auditing techniques.
The next day, Dae-woong discovers Cha-il’s audit and decides to dig into his case with the intention of helping him. He later finds the business card of Cha-il’s former teammate who had helped him with the embezzlement case that resulted in the employee’s death. He gives it to Han-soo. Han-soo and Seo-jin meet with the teammate and discover that the employee had committed suicide so that the real perpetrators behind the embezzlement would be safe, and they could fund his wife’s breast cancer surgery.
Upon returning, they see the late employee’s wife protesting outside the company and decide to tell her the truth. She had started her protest when Shin Cha-il had refused to tell her the truth about her husband’s death, assuming that he had killed him due to his coercive auditing process. They also find that she had been contacted by CEO Jeong in an attempt to get Cha-il dismissed from the company.
They feel suspicious about Jeong’s suicide attempt and wonder if it was only a pretense. Talking to Jeong’s colleague, they find that Jeong’s suicide was indeed a pretense. They relay this information to Auditor Seo with a testimony from Jeong’s colleague, who had felt guilty about participating in her antics for money.
Eventually, Auditor Seo reports Shin Cha-il as not guilty to the president. Since Cha-il had become a thorn in the president’s side, he was in a rush to get rid of him. We also discover that the president cannot dismiss Cha-il before two years unless he hurts the company’s image. This is why he initiated an audit against him, but in vain.
In the ending scene, Se-woong’s sister-in-law reports her husband’s recovery to him and invites him to visit his brother the next day. However, in the wee hours of the night, an unidentified man kills the president in his hospital room.
The Episode Review
The ending scene was quite expected, and suspicion immediately falls on Se-woong. He is definitely hiding something. Perhaps he is the one who had his brother hospitalized in the first place, given how his brother had a terrified reaction on seeing Se-woong. Also, now that Se-woong feels cornered from all possible directions – unable to have Shin Cha-il on his side, which was the motive for hiring him in the first place to be able to dethrone Dae-woong – it’s highly possible that he took drastic steps to secure his position as president.
On the other hand, even though he might not express it, Cha-il does feel guilty about how his auditing process has driven people to the last resort. This is why we see a change in his methods when he decides to reassure Moon to start anew despite his strong dislike for those who participate in foul play. We can also see nuanced character growth as he seems to have become closer to his team, thanking Han-soo and Seo-jin for their efforts.
Dae-woong is another character we’ve come to understand a little more. He’s been bullied by his step-brothers and tolerated his father’s abuse due to his birth status. He only found solace in Seo-jin and her mother’s company, whom he now considers family. So, even though his methods have not been commendable, we certainly understand why he felt the need to opt for them.
We are sure that ‘The Auditors’ is going to present a great finale next week, and we cannot wait for it. With this, we end our ‘The Auditors’ episode 10 recap and review. We’ll meet you in the next one!
