The Atypical Family
The Atypical Family, the latest weekend K-drama, centers on Bok Gwi-Joo and his family, who belong to an established line of superhumans with unique powers. Bok Gwi-Joo can travel back in time, but only to happy moments in his own life. He can’t change the past; he can only observe these happy moments. When Gwi-Joo becomes depressed, he loses his powers.
His family also loses their own powers due to modern-day issues like insomnia, obesity, and smartphone addiction. One day, Do Da-Hae gets involved with Bok Gwi-Joo and his family. As she lives with them, the Bok family notices changes in their powers. Will they be able to reclaim their abilities?

The Atypical Family Episode 9 [Spoilers] – What to Expect?
From the ending of Atypical Family episode 8, it’s clear that it was Gwi-Joo, and not his friend, who had saved Da-Hae on the day of the school fire. From Man-Heum’s precognitive dream, which is known for its accuracy, it seems Gwi-Joo might be in danger if he decides to save Da-Hae on the fateful day.
In the preview for episode 9, Gwi-Joo appears determined to save Da-Hae. Since he has been feeling helpless with his powers, unable to protect those he loves and save those in need, it’s evident that Gwi-Joo will do his best to save Da-Hae at all costs. It’s his chance to be the superhero he always wanted to be. Being able to save others would also help him cope with his absence during the car accident that killed his former wife.
So, in this episode, he’s definitely going down the perilous path he’s carved out for himself. However, from the episode 9 trailer, Gwi-Joo mentions, “Turns out, I can change the past without using my powers.” So, there’s a possibility that the danger never transpires. Perhaps we’ll see his powers change, allowing him to save Da-Hae without endangering himself.
However, if we consider this, only Da-Hae can touch and see Gwi-Joo in the past. So, even if something does happen on the day of the school fire, it’s unlikely that Gwi-Joo will die or be harmed because his future self simply does not exist in the past. Logically, it’s not possible for him to die unless his powers change and he’s able to come in contact with the surroundings in the past too, similar to the hospital door that he was able to touch when I-na was born.
The next episode would also feature some drama between Man-heum and Soon-gu, where it seems that the truth about Soon-gu’s secret rendezvous might be revealed. At the same time, it’s possible that Man-Heum realizes her shortcomings—how she’s been negligent towards her husband and I-na and overbearing with her children.
In terms of Dong-Hee, there might be a dangerous situation in the next episode since there features a clip where a drunken Dong-Hee and Grace stand on the rooftop with Grace’s voice encouraging Dong-Hee to fly along with her. Gwi-Joo and Da-Hae will possibly try to avert this disaster.
In the special release preview for episodes 9 and 10 this weekend, we’ll possibly see I-na confess to Joon-woo. But from the episode 9 preview, I-na might undergo a rollercoaster of emotions before the said confession takes place since Joon-woo had left the dance group chat in the last episode, and I-na might interpret this situation negatively. However, we are confident that I-na’s love life will soon flourish this weekend!
Lastly, Da-Hae might finally take a stand against Il-Hong in the next episode as she can be seen threatening Il-hong, “Stay away from the Bok family…I won’t be your daughter anymore” . It’ll be interesting to see their dynamics because despite being a fake family, Il-Hong does seem to care about Da-Hae.
What’s certain is we are definitely going to have some heart-fluttering moments in the next episode, so stay tuned!
