What Happened In Episode 18?

In The Apothecary Diaries Season 1 Episode 18, Maomao wakes up from a nightmare. Luomen asks her to visit the Verdigris House to complete a task for him. Maomao gathers supplies from the Verdigris House and visits the place’s annex to treat an ill courtesan. During this time, she reflects on this courtesan’s past life and Luomen’s connection to her.

Afterward, a girl informs her that Lakan’s arrived at the Verdigris House and warns her not to come outside until he’s gone. Later, Maomao and Meimei visit the Verdigris House’s bathing area and discuss topics regarding Lakan, Old Granny, the place’s principles, and Meimei’s retirement plans. Jinshi and Gaoshun greet Maomao the following day and ask her to deliver a souvenir to Suiren.

Suiren and Maomao chat about nobles, commoners, and missed opportunities. Suiren assigns Maomao a medicine-gathering task. Maomao travels to the place she’s been assigned to gather the medicine from. Then, she meets Suirei, the court lady who seems to have it out for Maomao. After completing the medicine task, Maomao ponders Jinshi’s activities and status.

Simultaneously, Jinshi and Gaoshun discuss Maomao and Luomen’s connection, on top of Luomen’s past work. Then, Lakan arrives and discusses courtesans with Jinshi more. Through this discussion, Jinshi learns Lakan is Maomao’s biological father. Lakan asks Jinshi to inform Maomao that he plans to visit her more.

Jinshi leaves to do so. However, he’s taken aback by Maomao’s reaction and says he’ll tell Lakan that Maomao doesn’t want to see him. Maomao visits a plant garden and encounters Suirei again. The two chat briefly about the garden’s origins and Suirei’s connection with it. The episode closes with a shot of the outer pavilion.
