The Accident (2024) – Season 1 Episode 5 Recap & Review

Episode 5

Episode 5 of The Accident begins with Charro leaving David tied in the hotel room and heading to the Lobos’. He only finds Lucia and threatens to hurt her unless Emiliano shows up. However, he is interrupted by Lupita who calls regarding their son’s arrest.

At the station, he swears at Lupita and is furious at his son. But Alex insists that he has nothing to do with drugs, there is no evidence and Daniela chased him. Charro is surprised by that last bit of information and promises to get him out. But once his parents leave, Santos tries to interrogate Alex.

He offers a deal if Alex should give up the dealer’s name. He then wonders if Charro is involved and surprises Alex by revealing that his father’s construction business is very likely a front for a drug ring.

Emiliano moves in with Javier but Brenda is upset as the latter did not consult with her. With the added insult of letting her have birth control pills, she refuses to listen to him. The only way he can fix things is to give her a child or she will look into surrogacy or sleep with someone else. Emiliano doesn’t want to cause any problems but Javier doesn’t let him leave in case he turns himself in and ruins the deal.

With Carla documenting Paula’s “vision”, droves of visitors surround the house upsetting Fabian. Daniela too is upset and requests Carla not to cover Paula’s case. However, she refuses as it is her job to cover news and miracles alike.

She also observes that Daniela is getting too worked up for someone like Fabian and her sister comes clean about the fateful birthday party. Carla is shocked and wonders if the other men know and are accomplices as they had been with Emiliano during the phone call.

Unable to take the scrutiny anymore, Fabian reports Carla for trespassing and harassment. Santos is not too enthusiastic as he has bigger fish to fry with Charro.

Charro’s right-hand man, Peyote heads back to the hotel to kill David but finds it empty. Turns out, housekeeping arrived just in time and helped David escape who alerts Emiliano and rushes home. He keeps fumbling his story as he hastily packs and drags Carla out of their home. They hide in a hotel room but Carla insists on going to the hospital and the police.

When he refuses, things finally click and she realises it has something to do with Emiliano. At that moment, David gets a call from a colleague – he is representing Fabian who is suing Carla. David is frustrated but Carla is more angry with the Emiliano-Charro fiasco.

Meanwhile, Daniela gets a call from a scared Lucia about Charro and she rushes home. She thinks Charro is targeting her for arresting Alex. Lucia is upset about learning this new development and insists that Alex is innocent. Daniela suspects something is off but Lucia refuses to snitch on her friends.

However, she threatens to turn Nico over if they don’t help Alex. Nico assures her that Alex will be out but Lucia doesn’t believe him. While heading to the police station, Nico stops her and blackmails her with their sex tape which also has Lucia doing coke.

As for Emiliano, he fills in Daniela about the Charro-David situation and she is furious that things have gone so far. She tells him to fix things and he promises to do so. He has a fatalistic farewell with Lucia who gets worried but Emiliano heads to Charro’s to confront him.

Meanwhile, Charro and Lupita head to the town’s border where he kicks her out. He reveals that he has a tracker on her and after seeing David’s book, he retraced her steps and caught her on CCTV with the man. Lupita gets scared as he takes her shoes, phone and wallet, and forces her to undress.

He then leaves her and tells her to walk home. Before heading home, he drops by David’s place. Annoyed that he has run off, he tells the CCTV that he will go after the wives if the men prefer to hide.

As for Lupita, as she heads back, her mind rages between reciting Bible verses and ranting about Charro being a womanizer himself. She finally reaches home but he refuses to open the door.

The next morning, Javier calls Daniela to calm her down and points out that accidents happen. She sees through his act as he is only interested in making sure the deal goes through. But as she talks it out, she realises that she doesn’t want Charro to murder Emiliano.

At that moment, Emiliano arrives at Charro’s place. He finds a bleeding Lupita sleeping on the steps and Charro comes out. He tells Lupita that their son’s murderer has arrived and Emiliano tells him to stay away from his family. They attack each other and just as Charro pulls out his gun, Daniela shows up and shoots him in the shoulder.

At home, as she patches up Emiliano, she confesses that she wanted to kill him too and she doesn’t know how to process everything that has happened. He is apologetic but he reasons that he cannot turn himself in as his family as well as David’s and Javier’s would become homeless.

She refuses to listen as she claims nothing can be worse than what they are already going through because of him. He doesn’t understand why she cannot forgive him for an accident and brings up how he forgave her for cheating on him. She is shocked that he would compare the two and he realises his mistakes.

At the end of The Accident Episode 5, Emiliano heads to the police station and confesses everything to Santos, telling the cop to arrest him.

The Episode Review

Since the beginning, this Netflix show has had its foot on the gas and doesn’t seem to ease up anytime soon. Which we’ll be honest, is pretty exciting, especially with a chapter like The Accident Episode 5. A lot is happening, but all the characters are involved and everyone is heading towards an uncertain future with the only certainty being pain. Even Lucia has her little subplot going on with her forbidden Romeo and Juliet romance and Nico’s blackmail.

It is also interesting how no one is a clear-cut black or white character which is what keeps adding to the drama. Here we thought the cop-journalist sisters would be holier than thou but Carla is a little selfish attention-seeker while Daniela has cheated on her husband and also is pretty indecisive on what to do with him.

A lovely little addition to the already messed-up male characters in this show. But we do wish we get more of Brenda in the following episodes to add more spice to the mix.
