Episode 2
Episode 2 of The Accident begins with Emiliano feeling guilty. However, David stops him from telling the truth as he believes Charro will kill Emiliano. On top of that, he claims his wife, Carla is pregnant so he cannot jeopardise the 40-million contract which would go under if Emiliano went to prison.
It is revealed that Emiliano has his own law firm and he offers to personally represent Moncho and get him out. But David calls the shots as he offers a deal – Moncho needs to plead guilty. In return, he and his family will be sent to USA. He also points out that should Moncho tell the truth, no one will believe him as he is a drunk.
Weighing their odds, Yola pushes Moncho to take the deal. She also goes behind their back and extorts Emiliano further by demanding a new house, a monthly allowance and his TV.
Meanwhile, Charro is let out but he refuses to pay for damages. Daniela is grieving as she sees Rodri everywhere. She continues to search for Paula but Fabian loses hope.
At home, Emiliano consoles Lucia. He tries to stop her from blaming Moncho but she is angry that he is being passive. And with her mom acting lifeless, Lucia feels like her family has abandoned her and she gets high with her friend, Salome.
Elsewhere, Brenda refuses to get out of bed and believes Javier doesn’t care as Mateo wasn’t his son. She finally goes for a walk and ends up at Mauricio’s bar and they bond over missing their son.
As for Charro, he hopes to bribe a cop to kill Moncho. When Mauricio rejects the idea, Charro claims they can just threaten him. But alone, he tells the cop, Horacio to kill Moncho.
Meanwhile, David tries to hide the developments from Carla who is a journalist. He gets defensive and jumpy when she announces that she wants to talk to Moncho about his version of the events. He tries to stop her and she wonders why he is acting weird. Similarly, Javier is surprised that Emiliano and David would want to help Moncho. He gets furious as he points out that he is also part of the firm.
Daniela visits Moncho and breaks down, hoping he suffers like her. He wants to tell her the truth but cries instead. After she leaves, Horacio arrives and is about to kill him when he is interrupted. Lupita mocks Charro for not being able to kill Moncho and he hits her.
Things aren’t looking up for Daniela as she also learns that Emiliano is defending Moncho. It doesn’t help that she comes across a cocky Yola who comes over to pick up her things as she has been let go.
Meanwhile, Alex thinks of his dead brother and the last conversation they had about love. Lucia doesn’t pick up his calls, and worried, he shows up at Salome’s. He takes Lucia home and looks after her.
Then we have Brenda who tries to complete Mateo’s puzzle and breaks down when she can’t find the last piece. Daniela gives Emiliano the cold shoulder that night and resumes searching for Paula the next day. She and Fabian finally find the girl near the river but she doesn’t wake up.
Moncho’s kids wonder if their father is guilty as everyone in school thinks so. Yola looks sad but doesn’t tell them the truth. Quique also wants to see his father but she refuses. Meanwhile, a Ventura Barroso shows up at jail and claims to be from Emiliano’s firm. He is Moncho’s new lawyer and also brings him food.
At the end of The Accident Episode 2, Emiliano comes to visit and Santos is proud that he has been able to distance himself instead of personally representing Moncho. Emiliano is confused as he doesn’t know any Barroso. They rush to the jail cell and see that Moncho has been poisoned.
The Episode Review
The Accident Episode 2 solidifies our theory of this show being more in terms of a mafia-type revenge thriller instead of an emotional drama. And with Moncho dead, the stakes are going to get higher as we doubt Yola will go down quietly. The only reason she agreed to the whole deal was so she and her family would be safe and rich. But with the safety factor gone, it seems she will extort them all and possibly get her revenge as well.
This episode also fleshes out the characters more with the way they grieve and process the accident. We are spot on with Emiliano’s description of a weak-minded righteous man. Charro was pretty okay, seen as the hot-headed loving dad who wanted to avenge his son. But sorry bro, we draw the line at hitting the mother of the said dead son.
