#Crosschecking
Episode 6 of Thank You, Next starts with Seyyaz working on a wedding cake. As he does, Leyla drinks wine and there’s a sign up on the wall: “Leyla’s last supper”. She comments how she just wants to be happy but she feels trapped.
Stumbling through the hallway, she heads into Cem’s room. However, this then catches us up to Leyla taking off in the morning. And who should be cooking the food inside, watching all of this play out? Seyyaz.
In the past, Leyla finds herself conflicted over how she feels about Cem. She knows his type and tries to avoid him but unfortunately, he’s persistent and she eventually caves, giving in to her body’s wants. However, she doesn’t let her mind follow suit, knowing that he’s a narcissist and these sort of men will do anything to wine and dine her… and then drop her at the first sign of conflict. So she remains distant.
In fact, Leyla has grown somewhat pessimistic in her outlook on love. She’s realized that the men in her life have moved on to other things (except Cem). She laments how marriage is supposed to draw you closer… but it actually pulls people apart. And through all of this, Leyla finds herself lonely. She also misses the pandemic and that feeling of being together in the face of “the end of the world”. For her and Omer, they were close, and had a good bond. And that’s something that Leyla misses.
After talking to her father about how she feels, up at the lake house, Cem is invited over by her uncle. Business needs and all that! Leyla is not happy, especially as Cem works his magic on the room and charms them all. The celebration here is a birthday party, and naturally, things result in cake eating, wine drinking… and Cem wanting to talk to Leyla outside. She brushes him off, at least to begin with, but he does his best to try and chip away at her defences.
In the midst of this, Sarp’s father has a heart attack. While he’s busy tending to his pa, Leyla speaks to her parents and learns how they met. This really helps her, especially as they open up and reveal their vulnerable side. She realizes that she’s never fixed the broken parts of her own life and she’s the only one to blame for all of this damage.
Victories and defeat are poisonous to a relationship, and that night, when she has Buddy back, she falls asleep with Omer’s necklace round her neck. She realizes that she doesn’t want to lose Omer, and after Sarp’s father’s funeral, they talk. Omer points out that she’s his precious person and he’s also now single. The pair hug it out and eventually end up having sex.
As we cut back to the present, Leyla smiles faintly and speaks to Omer, deciding they should play one more game. It seems like this is who she’s marrying but it’s still unclear on that front.
The Episode Review
The plot takes another turn, and this time we see Leyla deciding that she and Omer are going to have another shot at this. Whether it’ll work out or not is anyone’s guess but it remains to be seen what the fallout will be.
In the meantime, we’ve got lots of drama with the different men in Leyla’s life but it does seem like Leyla has made her choice in sticking with her ex. Whether this works out for the better or not, is up for debate.
