Out of all the different genres available to watch, perhaps none are more suited to an anthology format than horror. Whether it be small spooks like Tales from the Crypt or a full-on horror experience like Channel Zero, horror fans are actually spoilt for choice in finding frights on the small screen.

Terror Tuesday then is a unique series in many ways because it really shows off the best and worst of this format. On the one hand, the show takes some unique ideas and spins on old myths and delivers that across 8 episodes of spooks and thrills. Unfortunately, for every half-decent episode there’s an abundance of absolute stinkers. That’s a shame because as far as ideas go, Terror Tuesday does have some “extreme”ly effective ones rife for scares.

From spooky dolls that come to life, across to a haunted prophecy that follows our characters as they hide secrets from one another, there’s a good deal of variety that’s explored across the brisk 30-4o minute long chapters.

As far as scares go, Terror Tuesday doesn’t really have anything that can be considered scary or terrifying. I know that this is easy to say after consuming a ton of horror, but with a title like “Terror Tuesday: Extreme” you’d expect a little more than perfunctory frights and jump scares.

On that note, let’s actually discuss these massively overused tropes. When used right (like that memorable one from Haunting of Hill House) jump scares can work really well to heighten the mood and atmosphere of a piece. When it comes to Terror Tuesday, the same can’t be said. Some of the episodes are so devoid of horror that the jump scares are abused to the point of being annoying. They’re used as placeholders just to try and keep the horror theme going – and it doesn’t work.

On that same subject, Terror Tuesday has a habit of going all-in with its plot twists. Sometimes these work well, like in the first episode with a haunted doll, but other times it just feels like a forced narrative arc just for the sake of sparking discourse online.

The visual effects are okay, but there’s nothing here that really stands out. There are some decent practical effects though and it’s definitely worth commending the sound design too, which isn’t bad. There’s also not full-on body gore and horror either, which is a nice touch.

Ultimately, Terror Tuesday is a below-average anthology. Compared to so many others in this field, Terror Tuesday struggles to stand out. It’s certainly not awful, and there are a few stand out moments, but as a collective whole, this Thai series certainly doesn’t live up to its promising title.
