TenPuru: No One Can Live On Loneliness – Season 1 Episode 1 Recap & Review

You’ll Repay Us With Your Body!

Episode 1 of TenPuru: No One Can Live on Loneliness begins when our protagonist, Akemitsu Akegami, is a tiny boy. His father explains to him why having multiple partners is preferable to having just one. He then compares intimate relationships with friendships. Following that, he abandons his son and goes away. Akemitsu thinks his father is extremely cool at that age.

We are transported to Akemitsu Akegami’s teenage years. He, like his father, is fascinated by women’s bodies. His father’s abandonment, on the other hand, has clearly left a scar on him. As a consequence, he steers clear of women. He refuses to go when his friends invite him to mixers or other social events where he might meet a girl.

While walking one day, he muses about his future plans. He expresses his desire to pass the civil service exams so that he can have a steady source of income. He also mentions how he wishes to avoid women. Surprisingly, a woman unintentionally drops a rice bag on him. He finds the woman in question to be extremely attractive, and he is completely smitten with her. He then rushes home because he does not want to give in to earthly desires.

Akemitsu can’t get the woman he met out of his head for the next few days. He takes things too far, and he ends up going to mixers with his friends and skipping classes. We see him quickly spiral out of control. When he is confronted with reality, he goes too far yet again. He decides to give up his secular life and become a monk. He secures a place in a temple with the help of his uncle.

When Akemitsu arrives at the temple, he is greeted by the same woman that has made him become a monk. Well, he is still completely smitten with her and asks her to marry him right away. As she is being set up for an arranged marriage, the woman believes he is her suitor. However, after speaking with her mother, she realizes that Akemitsu is not her suitor. This leads to a lot of misunderstandings and chaos.

We learn that the temple was recently converted into a nunnery, and Akemitsu’s uncle was unaware of the development. The nunnery women invite Akemitsu to stay in exchange for helping them with manual labor. He declines the offer, claiming that he has already caused a lot of havoc.

When he arrives at the train station, he discovers that the last train has already left. Following that, the woman he likes comes by. She tells him that she was aware that the last train has left and she has come to take him to the temple. They get along well and have an interesting conversation. Thereafter, she introduces herself as Aoba Yuzuki. She recognizes his surname when he introduces himself.

Yuzuki drags Akemitsu back to the temple. The women inform him that his father stole money from the temple and ran away. Following that, they inform him that he must repay the debt with his body, and the episode comes to a close.

The Episode Review

Episode 1 of TenPuru sets up the protagonist’s backstory and introduces us to him. We quickly discover his Achilles heel: women. The episode is packed with faint humour. The anime doesn’t take itself too seriously and does not expect us to either. Despite the protagonist’s tragic past, the impact it has had on the character is delivered in a rather hilarious manner.

The show’s plot, however, isn’t particularly compelling. Additionally, the protagonist appears superficial, and his love interest Yuzuki seems immature and childish, making it difficult to connect with such weak characters. It’s only the first episode, so things might pick up. It will be intriguing to see how things develop moving forward.
