Tell Me Lies – Season 2 Episode 6 Recap & Review

“Do Your Dirty Words Come Out To Play?”

Episode 6 of Tell Me Lies Season 2 starts in 2015 at a rehearsal dinner ahead of Bree and Evan’s wedding. She is in the powder room, talking to someone on the phone. She asks the person on the line to let her move on with her life now. Evan enters the powder room and Bree lies to him, stating that she was smoking a cigarette.

Meanwhile, Lucy is looking for someone at the party when Max joins her. Lucy goes to talk to Bree who tells her that Lydia was not going to attend the party. Stephen is having drinks with Chris and Wrigley. Just then, Diana shows up at the party, and Lucy and Bree wonder how she found out about the event. Pippa joins Diana and kisses leaving the entire group shocked.

Pippa introduces Diana as her girlfriend to Lucy and Bree. Diana leaves the three friends alone as Pippa tells her college friends how she feels about Diana. Bree, Lucy and Pippa sit at the same table with their respective partners. Stephen raises a toast to Bree and Evan as Evan’s best man and talks about the couple’s whirlwind romance.

That night, Lucy texts Stephen, asking to meet him by the pool. At the pool, Lucy is having sex with Max as Stephen shows up there, finally catching onto Lucy’s plan. The episode moves back to 2008 as Leo and Lucy are having sex in his dorm room. Lucy tells Leo how happy she was that she could stay in due to the weather because she was dreading spending Thanksgiving with her family.

Leo gets upset while talking about his family, especially his father. Lucy gets worried upon seeing Leo’s reaction. At the cafeteria, Bree talks to Oliver on the phone when Evan and Wrigley show up there. Evan tries to make small talk with Bree which makes Evan think that Bree has forgiven him. He decides to host a friends-giving party to find a way to hang out with her. He asks Wrigley to invite Pippa and her friends.

At the same time, Bree tells Lucy how happy she is with Oliver. Pippa shows up there and asks if the two want to go to the friend-giving party. Bree agrees to go and Lucy agrees too after confirming that Stephen will not be going there. Pippa’s excitement makes Bree wonder if she is hooking up with Wrigley but she gets defensive.

The episode then moves to Diana telling Stephen that she does not want to go home for Thanksgiving because she is fighting with her dad. Stephen tries to calm her down but she refuses to grovel to her father just because they need his support. Wrigley tries to get in touch with Drew but ends up leaving a voice note to him, asking the latter to get in touch.

At Evan’s apartment, he starts cooking for the friends giving get-togethers when Molly shows up. He is worried about Bree running into Molly at the event and asks Wrigley to help him out of the situation. Both Wrigley and Evan cannot muster up the courage to ask Molly to leave.

Just then, Lucy, Leo, Pippa and Bree show up there. Bree and Molly have an awkward interaction when she leaves to go to the restroom. There, she snaps a provocative photo of herself and sends it to Oliver. At the same time, Evan talks to Bree and tries to check up on her.

Co-incidentally, Stephen and Diana arrive at the get-together which leaves Lucy anxious. Wrigley states that he invited the two there and Leo asks Lucy to calm down. Throughout the night, Lucy tries to avoid Stephen who is instigating her. He asks Lucy if she knows Becca and the history between her and Leo. Leo asks Lucy to dismiss Stephen knowing how he always stirs up trouble.

Meanwhile, Pippa hangs out with Diana which seems off to Bree and Lucy. The two girls go out to get some fresh air and Pippa goes out too. Bree brings up how Pippa was being nice to Diana, which was unlike her. Inside the apartment, Bree and Molly get talking about the latter’s relationship with Evan. Bree tells Molly that she does not care about Stephen’s romantic life as she is seeing someone.

As the night goes by, the tension builds up. Evan is shocked to find out that Bree is seeing someone. To diffuse the tension among the couples, Wrigley suggests the group play a game of Slap Shots wherein one person asks the other to take a shot before they slap them across the face. The game starts as a fun one with Bree slapping Lucy and Lucy slapping Wrigley and so forth.

However, when it is Pippa’s turn to slap Diana, she chooses not to. Stephen tries to get Leo to get angry but the latter is calm and composed. He takes on the slap from Stephen without giving any in return. Evan gives Bree a shot and attempts to slap her but instead holds her cheek. Molly gets upset and storms off with Evan chasing after her.

With the oven bell dinging, Lucy and Leo are setting the dinner table when Stephen confronts them. He reveals that Leo’s ex-girlfriend – Becca cheated on him with Stephen. Lucky is shocked to hear this and is upset with Leo for keeping the fact a secret from her. She gets further upset when she learns that Diana was aware of this.

Leo tries to calm Lucy down but Stephen claims that Lucy is obsessed with him. He brings up the fact that she sent the voicemail to Sadie and threatened her. Lucy gets angry and argues with Stephen, bringing up Diana. Diana asks Lucy to keep her out of the argument, stating that she made it easier for Stephen to treat her badly.

Lucy loses her calm and slaps Diana. Leo leaves the get-together and Lucy follows after him trying to talk to him about his issues. Lucy brings up how he hid the fact that Leo did not tell about his ex cheating on him with Stephen. She also adds how she cannot trust him because of his anger issues.

Leo finally opens up to Lucy about his father physically abusing him. He reveals that he has been having a hard time trying to break the pattern of abuse in his house. Leo points out that Lucy brought up the worst aspect of Leo’s life to bring him down. He ends things with her and suggests that Lucy work on her issues. Lucy gets back to Evan’s apartment to collect her bag. She apologises to Diana and leaves.

Evan talks to Bree in private and asks if she is seeing someone. She reveals that she is dating an older man and claims that things are serious with him. Evan tells Bree that he is worried for her because she is looking for a father figure in the guy she is dating, who is trying to take advantage of her. Bree is furious and storms off as Evan gets back to the dinner table.

After dinner, Pippa checks up on Diana and the two chat about Stephen. Pippa points out how Stephen has been rude to her but Diana dismisses it. That night, Lucy is in bed when Bree brings her something to eat. Lucy opens up to Bree as she sobs in bed over her breakup with Leo. At the same time, Pippa and Wrigley lay in each other’s arms as she texts Diana who is sleeping with Stephen.

The next morning, Evan talks to Stephen about how people get upset with him when he tries to do something good. Bree gets a call from Oliver and the two chat. She dismisses the idea of talking to Evan as she has a romantic conversation with Oliver. Lucy runs into Stephen and tells him that she is done being at war with him. The episode ends as she is in tears, asking him to stop.

The Episode Review

I agree with Leo when he said that Stephen enters a room and sucks the energy out of it. The way every single conflict in Lucy’s life in the last two seasons has been because of Stephen and his obsession with her. The final moments of the episode prove that Lucy is tired of Stephen after he ruins everything for her just because he cannot have her. Talk about a manipulative piece of work.

The show is now taking an interesting turn but I am not sure if it is right for Bree to openly mention how she is dating someone who is much much older than her. She is painting the target on her back. From the way things are going now, one can hope that Bree will end up being heartbroken by Oliver who will drop her like a hot potato when it comes to putting his family first.
