Episode 3 of Tell Me Lies season 2 starts in 2015 where Lucy takes her boyfriend – Max to the pre-wedding celebration of Evan and Bree. Stephen tells Evan that Lydia was out of town and Wrigley avoids Pippa. Lucy tries to make it as it she is unbothered by Stephen but she gets upset when Max talks to him. Pippa goes out to get a smoke and talks to Diana.
She tells Diana that she wanted her to be there for her and wishes she would have come to the party. Outside, Stephen tries to make small talk with Lucy but Pippa asks him to back off. Lucy tells Pippa that Lydia may have changed Stephen for the good but Pippa refuses to believe this. The episode moves back to 2008 when Lucy is in class.
Stephen tries to talk to Lucy and lies to her about not being aware she is in the same class. He points out some mistakes in her essay and asks her to correct it while being please with himself for making Lucy uncomfortable. At the same time, Bree is making out with Oliver when he realises that he has a meeting soon. He gives his number to Bree and the two decide to meet outside.
Oliver asks Bree to keep their kiss a secret and she leaves with a parting kiss. On the other hand, Diana is stuck listening to her mother complain about her dad. Diana asks her mother to stick by her dad despite his bad behaviour towards her. She then goes to check up on Pippa after what happened to her at the party. Pippa is appalled by Diana’s concern towards her which catches the latter off guard.
At the cafeteria, Evan tells Wrigley and Stephen about his breakup with Bree. Wrigley claims that now that Evan has finally broken up, they could start going out and having fun like normal college students. Bree also tells her friends about the break up which makes things awkward for Lucy. Chris shows up there to greet Pippa.
Lucy and Pippa do not tell Bree about what happened with Pippa and Chris at the party as the two leave to go to class. Leo meets Lucy out on the campus and the two discuss Leo’s anger issues. Lucy refuses to talk to Leo about them and walks away. In the Cafeteria, Diana is sitting with Wrigley and his teammates when Pippa walks by.
The jocks tease her but instead of ignoring them like she always does, Pippa responds to them which makes them shut up. She calls Wrigley out for letting his friends try to bully her as she leaves.
Diana tells Wrigley that Pippa is right while Pippa goes to her dorm room and finds Bree there. Pippa appears to be shaken up and takes a nap in her bed. Bree tries to talk to Pippa about her kiss with Oliver but Pippa asks to talk later.
Just then, Bree gets a text from Oliver. In her apartment, Diana panics when she realises that the paper she had written was not saved. Stephen offers to write the paper for Diana which calms her down. Diana complains about her mother and calls her pathetic. Stephen tells Diana that she was nothing like her mother which irks her.
That night, Wrigley apologises to Pippa for how his friends have been treating her since their break up. Bree, on the other hand, goes to meet Oliver at a restaurant. Oliver tells Bree that he is attracted to her but will never be able to leave his wife. Bree tells Oliver that she is ready to have an affair with him. Oliver suddenly comes to his senses and realises that he was not thinking right and leaves the restaurant while Bree is shocked.
Pippa and Lucy decide to go out for a smoke when the two talk about their chaotic first year at college. Pippa tells Lucy that she wanted a fresh start which is why she dyed her hair blonde. Lucy tells Pippa that she is attracted to messed up men and brings up what Chris did to Pippa. Pippa refuses to talk about Chris and continues to tell Lucy how Leo was not as bad as he seems.
The next day, Stephen brings the paper he wrote for Diana when he notices Lucy’s ID card in her bag. He asks her how she got it and asks about the conversation Diana had with Lucy. Diana reveals that the two had an argument during which Lucy dropped her ID. Stephen lies to Diana and states that Lucy switched to the class that he was assigned to assist.
Diana is weirded out by Lucy’s behaviour and tries to sympathise with Stephen. Stephen then goes to Lucy’s room and questions her. Lucy asks Stephen to leave the room because he does not matter to her anymore. Stephen argues that Lucy is lying and he tries to come on to her. Lucy denies having any feelings for Stephen but draws close to him.
Stephen embarrasses Lucy and leaves the room. Lucy goes to Diana’s room and tells her the truth about Macy’s car accident. She tells Diana that Stephen watched Macy die and did not do anything about it. Diana refuses to believe Lucy and calls her insane for everything she has done so far. She leaves the room and drops out of the class that Stephen was assisting to keep herself away from him.
Lucy goes to Leo’s room and talks to him about his anger issues. Lucy finally comes clean about her issues with Stephen and how he affects her. She asks Leo to be good to her as the two hug each other on the couch.
That night, Bree meets Oliver and gets in the car with him. He takes her to a friends apartment where they hook up. The episode ends with Diana asking Stephen to go down on her as she tries to reassure herself after Lucy’s confession.
The Episode Review
Stephen is one of the most annoying characters on the show and every time he comes on screen, I just want to punch him in the face. He is obsessed with himself and wants Lucy to want him back despite the toxic way in which he treats her. Now that Diana also knows the truth about Stephen and Macy, this may be the reason for her breakup with Stephen.
Knowing that Lucy spilling his secret caused his breakup with Diana and ruined his career, Stephen is now dating Lydia to get back at Lucy. We can also expect Lucy to stand with Pippa in trying to expose Chris which caused her friendship with Lydia to break.
While there is chaos on all fronts in this season of Tell Me Lies, we can expect some steamy romance between Tom Ellis and Catherine Missal as Oliver and Bree!
