Teacup (2024) – Season 1 Episode 7 Recap & Review

Episode 7

Episode 7 of Teacup begins with a heavily injured McNab waking up in the forest. He goes back to the Navarro’s estate. He finds Travis’ body and takes the vial of rainbow liquid from his neck.

Back at the Chenoweth house, tensions run high as the group still doesn’t know who the Visitor is inhabiting. James, Ruben, and Donald get a fire going, hoping black smoke will call for help. Maggie approaches James with a sheet of paper with instructions on resuscitating a drowning victim. They grapple with the idea of actually drowning somebody and argue about it.

Ruben stalks off to do something more than set up campfires and Donald follows him. Meanwhile, Valeria helps Ellen bring food in from the barn. Inside, Nicholas keeps reading from McNab’s notebook and learns about a family in Maine who made the Assassin leave the woman it was inhabiting through drowning. He also learns about an underground resistance against the Visitors and shares all of this with Meryl.

As Ellen cooks some food, Valeria tries to make a list of people who were alone with Ellen. Donald follows Ruben to the Navarro estate where Ruben tries to set the glowing tree on fire. Of course, it doesn’t work and McNab arrives to tell them they can try something else.

In the house, Meryl and Nicholas end up kissing. Meryl goes inside the bedroom where Arlo’s drawing a zig-zag line over and over again. She concludes that Harbinger is trying to draw a map.

Maggie and James discuss the drowning issue again, wondering how to resuscitate a person via mouth-to-mouth if the Visitor travels through mouth. If they remove their gas masks, they become vulnerable.

Meryl and Arlo fit the drawing on a map and find that it marks a road leading to Belknap Mountain. But in the meantime, Valeria pulls Nicholas away from the house saying that she knows who Assassin is. She takes him to the edge, near the blue line and suddenly reveals that it’s her. She opens her mouth and the Visitor transfers from her to Nicholas. Valeria becomes lucid for a second but Assassin Nicholas pushes her across the blue line at the end of Teacup Episode 7.

The Episode Review

Teacup Episode 7 doesn’t live up to the same sense of tension and horror that the show set up in Episode 6. While we do initially focus on the growing distrust within the house, it soon gives way to the alien logistics again. Nicholas finds an underground resistance, James and Maggie debate the morality of drowning, while Ruben tries to solve the issue via fire.

None of these are problematic developments in themselves but it does give the story a sense of disharmony. As seen in the previous episode, the series is actually at its strongest when the writing is tight and brings characters together. That said, the plot twist at the end of the episode comes as a massive shock.

I’m guessing Assassin Valeria was putting up a front all this while with her attempt to find Assassin. This misleading makes Valeria’s death even more shocking and unexpected.
