The fully-fledged remake of the 1994 horror game System Shock is almost upon us so if you missed the original title when it was first released or if you’re looking forward to being scared all over again, you might be anticipating this upcoming release.

This first-person game is set in 2072 and it puts you in the shoes of a hacker who agrees to hack SHODAN, the AI of Citadel Station. After falling into a coma, you awaken to discover the AI has gone rogue and the crew dead, mutated, or turned into cyborgs. With the Station now a battleground, you must stop SHODAN and get past the various obstacles it puts in your way.

What platform is the System Shock remake releasing on?

The System Shock remake, which has been developed by Nightdive Studios and published by Prime Matter, is set to release on PC on May 30th, 2023.

The game will also become available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Linux, and Mac OS but there is no news of an official release date at this stage.

How long is the System Shock remake?

The original game was around 13 hours in length, or 21 hours for players striving to reach 100% completion.

As the remake contains new story elements and levels, we expect the game will be 2-3 hours longer than the original title.

Is System Shock single-player or multiplayer?

From the details we have gathered, the game is single-player only. But those who pre-order the game will receive System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition when it is released and that game contains co-operative multiplayer.

Is there any DLC?

Other than the inclusion of System Shock 2 for those who pre-order the game, we don’t know of any DLC at the time of writing. Expect more details to be revealed after the game’s release date.

Does the game have achievements?

The game’s achievements will be listed at True Achievements when they become available.
