Episode 5 Recap

The recap of Sweet Home Season 3 Episode 5 begins with Sang-won being surprised that Yi-kyung is human as Yi-su had told him that she had turned her mother. However, he doesn’t care how she turned human again as he grabs Yi-su and tries to possess her. But she screams which has him dropping her. Frustrated, he drags her back and locks her in the shed.

Meanwhile, Jae-jin thinks he has made headway only to find Monster Hyun-su in front of him. Jae-jin tries to rile him up by claiming that he is not the real Hyun-su but an imposter. Monster Hyun-su simply resumes dragging him back to the stadium. Nearby, Kim and Eun-hyuk’s car crosses paths with Eun-yu and she is shocked to see her brother.

However, Kim spots Hyun-su and Jae-jin and runs his car into them. While Kim avenges his fallen men by beating up Jae-jin, Eun-hyuk greets Hyun-su who finds himself stuck in a bus. They recognise each other but Hyun-su isn’t ready to listen to Eun-hyuk’s proposal to team up. While they fight, Eun-yu reaches the site and is shocked by the developments.

Chan-young spots Jae-jin about to burn Kim and saves him. However, Jae-jin’s target is Hyun-su as he envelopes the bus in scalding material and runs off. Kim tries to drag Eun-yu with him but when she refuses, he leaves with Chan-young and Ha-ni.

Inside the bus, Eun-hyuk and Hyun-su are annoyed that Jae-jin interrupted their fight. Eun-hyuk keeps goading Hyun-su to prove himself useful and the latter creates an opening. Eun-hyuk jumps out but Hyun-su is stuck. Outside, Eun-hyuk finds Eun-yu waiting for them. Her happiness is cut short as he doesn’t care about her.

She tries to get answers from him and he reveals that he is a neohuman, the final stage of monsterization. He has his memories but no emotions. We also learn that they are not real siblings as he mocks her for mourning him. However, she refuses to give up on him or Hyun-su. 

Back at the stadium, an upset Sang-won asks Lim why he couldn’t switch bodies with his daughter. They deduce that Sang-won needs to be on the brink of death to do so. Inspired, Sang-won orders the Stadium Survivors to prep for a bonfire. While they are busy, we see an infected Gi-chun flaunting his symptoms. Yeong-su overhears that Yi-su has been caught and runs to find her.

Father Peter asks Ye-seul about Seon-hwa and she shares she has gotten worse as the woman keeps asking for someone called Yeong-jun. Outside, Chan-young, Kim and Ha-ni watch as Jae-jin enters the stadium. While everyone is distracted, Lim tells Tak to knock out the girl and bring her. But it happens to be Ja-young as Lim cuts her stomach for something that can turn infectees into MHs. 

Yeong-su takes advantage of the chaos as well by finding the shed unattended. He tries to free Yi-su as he shares he can accompany her wherever she goes. She recalls him wanting to be a monster and turns him. However, Cheol-jong spots her alone inside.

On learning that she is missing, Sang-won gathers everyone. He declares that his daughter can turn them all powerful, so he needs their help finding her. As the gathering breaks, the Crow Platoon assures Tak that they won’t abandon him even though he has been infected. Ye-seul confides in Jin-ok that the platoon is planning on sneaking people out and they look for Yeong-su.

Back at the bus, Eun-hyuk is tired of waiting and decides to leave. Eun-yu calls him out for abandoning people and right then, Hyun-su escapes. And with that, the recap of Sweet Home Season 3 Episode 5 ends.

The Episode Review

Sweet Home Season 3 Episode 5 has us conflicted. A lot has happened but with great action comes great responsibility to avoid plot holes. Which the K-drama fails.The positives first. If you are ever in a stump, just bring in Lee Do-hyun and he will instantly elevate the situation. His banter with Song Kang’s Hyun-su in this episode was hilarious.

Yeong-su and Yi-su’s friendship is pretty wholesome and bittersweet as well. Both have lost family but fail to see that there are others who care for them.

But riddle us this, what is going on with Seon-hwa and Peter? We just keep getting half-baked moves from them since season 2 but they are not contributing to the plot in any way. Just tell us what their deal is already! And the whole special infectee MH experiment is so confusing. Why has Ja-young been in pain for the past few episodes? And isn’t Sang-won Patient MH1? So, how could Ja-young have been used to turn him? We need answers stat!
