Sunset x Vibes – Season 1 Episode 12 Recap, Review & Ending Explained

Episode 12

Sunset X Vibes Episode 12 brings us back to Lin picking up the jewelry while Kaew watches from her car. She recalls the warning that she must ensure the necklace doesn’t make it to the world jewelry event. But this time we see someone catches Lin as he falls. Kaew crashes her car but jumps out to grab the jewelry case. When someone comes to help, Sun gives chase.

With the case, Kaew meets Korn at a parking garage but she doesn’t trust him to pay her once it’s all over. He claims her reward will come once he takes over as CEO and the necklace sale over the dark market will add a bonus. He grabs the case from Kaew and points a gun at her but before he can shoot, Sun jumps to the rescue. As they tussle, the police arrive and Sun retrieves the case.

Now at home, Lin rests on the sofa but wakes to a scared Sun who explains the situation. Lin instantly believes Sun is his miracle. While at the office, Chan gives the design team a play-by-play of Sun’s heroism and ninja-like skills.

At Sun’s house, he dresses Lin in a cropped jacket showing some skin while Sun dons his usual dark suit. With odd camera angles and sound effects, Sun appears to receive his reward for saving Lin.

That evening, at the world jewelry event, Sun’s mother and Lin’s father, as the hotel owner, greet attendees. Sun and Lin enter to greetings from the team as the interns drag Lin away to see the event room. They gush over the top models that are at the event, making Lin more nervous.

Later, Lin slips outside for a break but Sun quickly finds him, reassuring that he’ll do a great job and promising a reward later. On the catwalk, models display extraordinary jewelry. When Lin, the final model, cruises the stage in a flowing jacket with his wonderful necklace the audience cheers. And Sunset x Vibes, the name of Soul’s piece, wins the award.

Suriyen (Sun) is called to the front to accept the award on behalf of Soul High Jewelry. In English, he thanks his mother, the design team and necklace designer, Salin. Afterwards in the dressing room, Sun massages Lin’s sore feet. Before things warm up too much, Lin says he’ll get changed but then he suddenly has trouble taking off his outfit. Sun is happy to help and Lin invites his fantasies but then decides he’d rather be the one to take care of Sun. It doesn’t take long for Sun to capitulate.

Reporting success to the board, Sun wins approval. He assigns Sam to take care of the design team post Kaew’s departure. And in the design office, Lin, Yo and Pim pack their boxes now that the internship has finished. As they say goodbye to their team, Sun calls them to meet. But he’s there to carry Lin’s box for him. As they depart, Sam follows after Yo and Prim offers Pim a lift.

Near his house, Yo and Sam share sweet kisses. While Pim asks Prim for the signature she’d refused to give her as a freshman. She repeats the I love you’s in different languages that Pim had spoken to her back then. The rain stops their kiss but they continue in the car. While at the office, Chan and Juladis meet for a cuddle in the restroom but instantly hide from Juladis’ father who also works there.

In the car, Sun takes Lin to the lake from his dream. Jewelry box in hand, he visualizes Lord Suriyen in his half-naga form who explains to Lin that they’re bound by karma. Lin offers him his designed necklace, a replica of Sidarin’s gift along with her apologies. They hear Sidarin’s echo and Suriyen replies in kind, setting her free. He then turns Lin over to Sun, who will care for him in this time.

Afterwards, at Sun’s estate, he presents Lin with a necklace from the same gem used in his design. In a rare pause of confidence, Sun checks to see if he’s in love with Lord Suriyen, but of course, Lin reassures him. Back on track, Sun offers a job at Soul after graduation but Lin says he’ll need to consider his offers. Sun manages to close the deal, offering himself as a perk.

In a final scene, the interns celebrate graduation and in voiceover, Lin notes unforgettable memories and beautiful romance. Sun offers a few days alone before Lin starts work at Soul and immediately drags him away.

Ending Explained

What happens with Lord Suriyen?

To end the cycle, Lin feels he must help Sidarin to apologize to Lord Suriyen. He offers him the necklace he’d designed from his dream – a replica of the one Sidarin had gifted him – and apologizes on Sidarin’s behalf. Suriyen accepts the apology and sends Lin back to Sun, who will take care of him in his time.

What happens to Sidarin?

When Lord Suriyen accepts the apology he also sets her free from her prison – the reason she’d appeared in Lin’s dreams.

Why does Lord Suriyen appear with a long tail?

Lord Suriyen appears as a naga, a Thai god that’s represented as a serpent demon and rules the waters. Naga are worshipped as mythological creatures in Thai temples.

Why does Sun let Lin give away the award-winning necklace?

To Sun, Lin’s well-being is more important than anything else. And to be fair, he owns a whole jewelry company. If they need another, he’s got the design to hand.

Why does the board approve Sun?

By winning at the world jewelry event, the board supports him as someone taking the company in the right direction and back into profitability.

Do all the romances end happily?

They do. Sun and Lin, Yo and Sam, Prim and Pim, even Chan and Juladis. There’s plenty of kissing, romance and steam in the finale.

The Episode Review

I often dislike stories that end in an unrealistically perfect bow but somehow I’m appreciating this one. In this final episode, the criminals were arrested, Sun’s job appears to be safe now that he’s shown his skill under pressure and ability to work on behalf of the company. The interns successfully completed their internships and even graduated. The sweet pairings that have steadily grown over the last several episodes were filled with romance and understanding. Lin even managed to resolve his recurring nightmares with the help of Sun. And even help relieve his past life existence. With the storyline as it was, it all made sense and ended satisfactorily.

Rather than a focus on skin only, the story was interesting, giving us glimpse of Thai beliefs and a version of history as well as a peek into the jewelry industry. At the same time, it showed us a side of Thailand that’s accepting of diversity in sexuality, a lot like Thai singer Pyra told us in our interview story when she noted the country’s current reign as the BL center of Southeast Asia.

Additionally there was this nice piece about fated relationships, showing us that Lin and Sun have been together for a lot longer than their current lifetime. And that it’s not always been smooth. But this time they got it right. So it felt quite hopeful and deservedly happy.

On a side note, using the superhero story of Sun, Chan plugs iQIYI for viewing the uncut version of the ‘real’ story. It’s funny as long as they only do it once and such was the case. They also wrapped up the story title by naming the prize winning necklace ‘Sunset x Vibes.’
