Star Wars: Visions – Season 2 Episode 4 “I Am Your Mother” Recap & Review

I Am Your Mother

Episode 4 of Star Wars: Visions season 2 starts with Anni heading off to the Academy, while her mum fixes up the droid in their house, Z-1. Before she goes, her mum gives her a big hug. The animation style here is delightful, harking back to the days of clay animation and giving serious Wallace and Gromit vibes. Anyway, I digress.

Anni arrives at the Hanna City Flight Academy where she intends to fly in the family race. However, Anni’s mum is too busy fixing up droids, and her daughter is embarrassed by her mum and doesn’t bother telling her about the big race.

As all the families prepare to race on the start line, Anni’s mum suddenly comes careering down onto the track in her ship. She’s there’s to drop off Anni’s lunch, and after some belittling from her fellow racers, Anni and her mum get involved and decide to join the ranks.

Anni admits to her mum that she’s embarrassed by her and she never wanted to get involved. She swallows her pride though, as her mum puts her faith in Anni’s flying abilities and has her take over while she saves Z-1, their protocol droid. Anni takes the wheel and flies to the finish line, winning the race ahead of her bully, Julan.

The Episode Review

Star Wars: Visions delivers a simple but enjoyable episode about a race and not judging a book by its cover. There’s definitely some parallels to the pod-racing in Episode 1 but really, it’s the nods toward the Tortoise and the Hare story that stands out here. Despite looking like the worship ship in the race, grit and perseverance sees Anni and her mum come out on top.

The art style is delightfully quirky and seeing all these different styles blended together in this anthology is definitely one of the highlights for this series.
