Stand Atlantic rises to the occasion on Was Here and they deter from the normal pop punk output by upgrading their lyrical strengths. With this record, the band properly process songs which hit against significance, and they don’t sit and wait for adulation, they fight for it.

The act describes sorrow with lyrical content that serves up stories of deep regret, broken memories and the lack of love. Every chord strikes profoundly, every word instils, and the music has the knack of pulling you into a dark world of dirt and drained glamour.

There is no let up until the album halts. ‘Wake Up-Shut Sit Down Shut Up’ starts the record off with a subtle, soothing backdrop until the guitar presence rises to an almighty level. This song shows creativity.

‘Love You Anyway’ strikes compassion, but it still has those dark lyrics which become standard. Fury and repentance come together, and this track does hit the feelings.

’17’ is a stark track about the derailment of a relationship. It triggers pain, and the themes have been darkened by spite. The string guitar sequence increases the frenzy.

‘Rockstar’ is another track that shows the band’s anger, their rage against the industry and the world. The instrumentals bite and there’s this likability factor even with the subject.

Stand Atlantic don’t adhere to any rules on Was Here, as they divert their attention to the grit and overblown music industry. They want to break away from all that suffocates them.
