Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse

We’ve been waiting a long time for the sequel to 2018’s Oscar-winning Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse but following a few delays, the movie is now finally upon us.

If you have been looking forward to the movie – and if you have been practising the art of web-spinning in anticipation of this upcoming release – here are all the details you need to know about Spidey’s next adventure.

What is the plot of Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse?

In the last movie, Brooklyn teenager Mile Morales became the next person to become Spider-Man after being bitten by a spider in the subway. After getting used to his newly developed (and very sticky) superpowers, he teamed up with Peter Parker and a number of other spider-folk (including Spider-Gwen and Spider-Ham) to defeat Kingpin and save the Multiverse.

In the new movie, Miles will reunite with some of his web-slinging friends but he will also be introduced to a new group of Spider-People, including Spider-Punk, Spider-Woman, and Spider-Man 2099, to take down supervillain Dr. Jonathan Ohnn, aka The Spot.

Don’t expect the plot to be fully wrapped up at the end of this upcoming movie as this is the first instalment of a blockbuster two-parter. The second instalment, Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, will be released on the 29th of March 2024.

When is Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse being released?

The movie was initially set to release in 2022 but due to various production problems, it got pushed back to October last year. The movie then got delayed again but all being well, we shouldn’t have to wait too much longer for it to hit our screens.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse will hopefully be swinging into theatres on the 2nd of June 2023.

Who is in the Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse cast?

Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld are once again providing the voicework for Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy respectively, and they will be joined in the cast by Oscar Issac as Miguel O’Hara (Spider-Man 2099) and Jake Johnson as Peter B Parker.

The cast list also includes:

  • Issa Rae as Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman)
  • Bryan Tyree Henry as Jefferson Davis
  • Karan Soni as Pavitr Prabhakar (Spider-Man India)
  • Daniel Kaluuya as Hobart “Hobie” Brown (Spider-Punk)
  • Jason Schwartzman as Jonathan Ohnn (the Spot)
  • Jorma Taccone as Vulture
  • Andy Samberg as Scarlet Spider

Who is the director of Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse?

There’s not one director but three – Joaquim Dos Santos (The Legend of Korra), Kemp Powers (Soul) and Justin K. Thompson (Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs).

Writing credits belong to Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who worked on the last movie, and Dave Callaham, who provided the screenplay for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
