When she finds out Rick has been cheating on her with Charity, she begins retching and eventually vomits.
At the same time, Joel’s dog runs away. Joel tries to bring him back and eventually the pair find themselves huddled together under a makeshift metal shelter. Once there, Joel realizes he is cut out for these extra responsibilities after all. In fact, he rings Michael and tells him he wants kids, confessing his love.
When the tornado passes, Joel decides to keep his dog, naming him Roger. Joel and Roger do eventually show up at the barn, where he teams up with Sam and Trisha as they immediately storm the motel to oust Rick. After punching Charity in the gut and forcing Rick out the house, the trio drive back home again.
The Episode Review
Who knew a tornado could be so nonchalant? Given the number of tornados in the US every year I can imagine this may seem trivial but none of these characters are particularly bothered by it.
Anyway, the rest of the episode plays out in a pretty mild way. Rick is outed for the cheater that he is, allowing Sam and Trisha to actually be on the same page and share some nice moments, even if it is over a bottle of vodka or two.
Seeing Joel project his own insecurities onto Roger is a nice way of showing his real goals in life too, and a few tidbits over what happened to him in the past is certainly welcome.
Beyond that, there’s not much else to write home about. As the series finale looms, we’ll have to wait and see if see if Sam chooses to stay in town or not.
