Skip And Loafer – Season 1 Episode 10 Recap & Review

Scrambling and Dripping

Episode 10 of Skip and Loafer begins with preparations for Mitsumi’s school festival. We know from the previous episode that Mitsumi is very excited about it. As a result of her desire to experience everything, she takes on a plethora of responsibilities. On the other hand, Shima succumbs to his classmates’ pressure and agrees to act, despite not wanting to.

Shima confides in Sousuke about acting for the festival due to peer pressure. Sousuke tells Shima that distancing himself will have an impact on him and that his friends will notice it. Shima informs him that he does not want anyone prying into his days as a child actor. He adds that if remaining silent will help Ririka, he will do so. Shima also asks Sousuke not to tell Ririka about his participation in the school festival, and he agrees to do so.

Mitsumi takes on too many responsibilities and is unable to balance them all. Following that, her classmates complain in front of Shima. Mitsumi overhears their conversation and spots Shima, and she knows he’s overheard their conversation.

Shima spends time with Mitsumi in an attempt to distract her from the incident. After a while, Mitsumi learns about Shima not wanting to act. She understands that he has his own issues, but he still attempted to cheer her up. She then sobs because she wasn’t considerate towards Shima. Shima believes that Mitsumi’s sensitivity makes her unfit to live in the city and pursue politics. He believes she should have stayed in her hometown.

Shima’s past is then revealed to us. He was very similar to Mitsumi when he was a child. As a result, he feels obligated to protect her feelings. Shima’s belief that Mitsumi is unfit for the city is a projection of how he feels about his past. We learn that his coping mechanism is bolting for the door. When Mitsumi tells him that she knows she falls a lot, but it makes her even better at picking herself up and learning from her mistakes, he comes to a new understanding of the situation.

After Shima cheers Mitsumi by performing with her, they heard back to class. Mitsumi then completes her task. Shima, on the other hand, works on his acting skills with his classmates.

The episode concludes on Shima’s 16th birthday, where wee see that his classmates get him a cake and celebrate with him.

The Episode Review

This episode perfectly captures the magic found in the series. It teaches us how Shima and Mitsumi’s temperaments complement as well as challenge each other.

Mitsumi is ignorant and enamored with Tokyo’s possibilities. Shima, on the other hand, maintains his skepticism. He’s also not impressed by the happenings around them. He is uninterested, while she is eager. Moreover, in contrast to his lack of interest, her goals are relentlessly ambitious.

Both of them are compassionate, and one of their many shared traits is their people-pleasing personalities. In this episode, Mitsumi agrees to help out since she wishes to be useful, and Shima agrees to act so he can continue to be liked but remain unnoticed.

The animation is excellent throughout the musical segments too. The warm sunset hues that have evolved into their colors light up their dance, which is tucked away in the stairs they frequently use. To depict his practice sessions, the animation adopts a more watercolor-like style, imitating vintage film poster artwork.
