Silo – Season 2 Episode 6 “Barricades” Recap & Review

Barricades

Episode 6 of Silo season 2 begins with riots threatening to break out all round the Silo as the barricades prevent deliveries from getting through. Even worse, someone is poisoning the food with rat poison.

Knox, Shirley and Martha all end up reunited back in Mechanical, where they immediately begin gearing up. They realize that there could well be a mole here working against them, and Bernard’s plan is to rip the heart out of Mechanical and force them to turn on each other.

Those down deep are not happy with the lack of food and contemplate giving Knox and Shirley over. However, Martha speaks up and points out that this is precisely what Bernard wants from them. She brings up how they’ve always been united and they share their resources. Nobody is going to starve, and that comes from what’s just come down the trash chute.

Rebels from up in 122 have sent them a bunch of food, with a message thanking them for keeping the lights on. This is alongside their new mantra – “Juliette lives.” Bernard has anticipated this though, and decides to post Raiders at every chute access.

Meanwhile, Paul brings in Felix, an aspiring doctor, who’s a bit wet behind the ears. He’s not particularly great with his bedside manner so they need another doctor. And who should show up? Yep, it’s Pete Nichols. Kathleen and Pete manage to make it through under the guise of a woman in labour, but it’s definitely touch and go for a while.

Pete manages to take out the bullet and gets him patched up. Kennedy isn’t in the mood to talk in front of everyone though, so Paul goes it alone. He brings up that the computers went dark because Juliette put something on every computer before they were shut down. This happens to be the video we saw from before, of the beautiful outside world.

He also brings up how he made a deal to firebomb them in exchange for a ton of drugs to make him forget everything – including that video.

Back up the Silo, Lukas continues to work for Bernard, while Camille very much is not. Bernard confronts her about helping Shirley and Knox, but in return, she brings up how vigilante justice is against the law, and uses Bernard’s own rules against him. Bernard tries a different tactic though and explains it was Robert who actually organized this mob justice, as a way of riling them up.

Over at the barricades, Amundsen finds himself forced to bring in Advanced Tactical Gear when the Mechanical gang decide to show up, ready to attack.

However, here he find out that the mole is someone called Diego, and he feeds back to Sims what’s going on. Specifically, how there’s a second group with a saw that can cut through concrete. Funnily enough, Sims and Camille discuss the ambush and try to work out what to do with this information.

Eventually they decide to tell the Raiders, but only at the last second. It’s enough time for them to gain ground and enlist another stand-off. This time, the barricade is to be put up at floor 120  -2 floors higher than the chutes they get their food from. This was the play all along, as the idea here is to bring in the forces and give them extra troops. 122 is a Farm Level, and of course that means they have their food and also the means to increase their forces.

As for Paul, he shows up to see Martha and explains that Carla hasn’t been sent in for processing. Sometimes with high-profile clients they’re taken to seclusion instead, which appears to be what’s happened here. In order to try and resolve this, Paul asks what happened to Meadows.

With the truth revealed, Paul radios through to Bernard and demands an investigation into Meadows’ death. Instead, he cuts communication completely. Paul realizes that he’s lost the right to be Sheriff now, but interestingly, he’s also lost the shakes too, thanks to not taking those herbs anymore and seemingly finding his proper purpose.

Meanwhile, Juliette wakes up and finds herself on the mend. Turns out fake Solo has been helping her with antibiotics. Unfortunately, he’s also got her over a barrel. He’s stolen the suit and forces her to fix the pump. If not, then she’s not going to be able to help her own Silo. And time is very much of the essence here.

The Episode Review

Silo is just starting to turn the screw now and become all the more tense with every passing episode. Here, we only see a snippet of Juliette, but it’s enough to show just how strained this entire endeavour is and she has no choice now but to help fake Solo.

Meanwhile, the rebellion is starting to take shape and Bernard is losing his grip ever-more with each passing episode. This has worked well across the season and the slow-burn nature of this power-shift echoes that of the other Silo, which obviously resulted in everybody dying at the Silo entrance.

The show has been a solid watch so far, albeit one that’s a bit slow and could do with some serious editing to help make things more tense, but if next week’s episode follows suit, it should be quite the rollercoaster ride.
