Beginnings
Welcome to our complete Silent Hill 2 remake walkthrough! We’ll be taking you through the entire game, grabbing all collectibles and solving all puzzle solutions as we go.
If you’re stuck on a particular section or want to make sure you don’t miss anything, you’ve come to the right place. Of course, if we’ve missed anything or you have specific tips or tricks missing from this guide, please do comment below! With all that said, lets begin.
Your journey in Silent Hill begins in the familiar South Vale area, which you’ll revisit multiple times as you work through the game. For the purposes of this walkthrough, we’ll be guiding you through each individual section, in order, without bloating the guide too much by adding all of South Vale together. Okay, let’s begin.
Heading For The Graveyard
After kicking off a new game, you’ll take control of James Sunderland, our protagonist, who’s returned to Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his wife. Nothing unusual about that, right? Except, of course, she’s been dead for three years. Oh. Oh no. This sets up the eerie mystery that James is about to unravel.
After a brief monologue, you’ll step outside to a viewpoint overlooking the misty, unsettling town. First things first, head to your car and grab 1x Map of South Vale from the driver’s seat. At this point, it’s also worth noting that the game does not pause when looking at your map. If you see or hear enemies, do no open your map for obvious reasons! Furthermore, we’ll be returning to South Vale later in the game, so to avoid any headaches, we’ll be going through this guide in order, so expect separate guides for West South Vale and Dark South Vale.
To get a quick trophy, turn back and walk up the road past the bathroom. You don’t need to go too far and you’ll gain the Turning Back Now Trophy for walking away from Silent Hill. Once it pops, turn back and begin on our way.
Next to your car, there’s a white van with a set of stairs leading down to the Graveyard. The sign there should read “Toluca Lake”. Follow this path and on your way, you’ll find a well, which introduces the save game feature.
Keep going after, and you’ll run into a woman looking for her family. You’ll chat to her automatically when you push open the gates to the graveyard. Head west through the gate at the end of the graveyard, past a cornfield (which will be to your left), and past Silent Hill Ranch. Your destination is an Auto Parts garage at the end of the path. Head inside the open door and you’ll find a note pinned to the notice board.
This will tell you the key to progress is hidden somewhere in the garage. Go around the left side of the building, climb in through the window, and grab 1x Auto Parts Key from the desk with the lamp. It’s the only bright spot in the room so it’s easy to find.
With the key in hand, exit through the front door and unlock the red shutter door blocking the road ahead. Keep going down the road and, before you take the path to the right, approach the blocked tunnel for your first Glimpse of the Past collectible. Interact with the tunnel entrance to unlock this one.
Once done, head right, push through the metal grate, and continue until you reach Wiltse Road. A cutscene will trigger, and James will pick up a second map. 1x Map of the East side of South Vale. This will help open up Silent Hill a bit more. Cross the street adjacent to the and head into the flower shop to find your first memo – Flower Shop Message (Memo #1) – sitting on the counter.
East side of South Vale
Head out of the flower shop and follow the bloodstain heading up the intersection of Sanders Street and Lindsey Street. Interact with it, then follow the trail north up Lindsey Street. A short cutscene will play where James spots a strange figure ahead. Things are about to get creepy.
Keep heading north, and as you start seeing cracks in the road, you’ll find yourself at an intersection that leads off to Vachss Road.
While the main path is between the houses on your left, don’t miss out on the collectibles here. Approach the gate with the “Do Not Enter” sign to find the second Glimpse of the Past #2.
After grabbing that, head left through the gap between the houses. Pass through the two gardens, then the blue fence gate on the right, toward the weird noises.
Squeeze through the white garage on the left (when the game tells you to “look around to find objects”). Press X to interact with it. Check the kitchen drawer for 1x Health Drink. You can press Square to replenish your health.
Now head into the room with the cracked door to find a Radio (just follow the static noise through the house). James will automatically grab a Wooden Plank for defence, introducing you to combat. Use R2 to attack and Circle for dodge. Get a feel for dodging then strike back when you’re comfortable as dodging will help you out a lot later on in the game.
After the fight, trigger some additional dialogue by interacting with the dead enemy.
Before leaving, make sure to grab 1x Syringe from the desk to the right. Syringes are stronger healing items than Health Drinks, so they’re definitely worth collecting.
Exit through the window (by smashing it with the plank), and you’ll find yourself on Martin Street. Once you’re outside, immediately turn to your right and check the blood splatter in the corner. This will trigger Glimpse of the Past #3.
Head further down Martin Street, and James will come across a bloody corpse. Interact and grab 1x Matchbook for Neely’s Bar (Memo #2). Check your map, and you’ll notice Neely’s Bar has been circled.
Immediately after, grab 1x Martin Street Note (Memo #3) on the ground.
Save your game via the yard on the right, then head toward Neely’s Bar. Once at the bar, head inside and grab 1x Neely’s Bar Note (Memo #4) .
Don’t miss the covered-up jukebox in the corner. Interact with it and grab 1x Broken Vinyl Record piece, which begins the Jukebox Puzzle.

Where Is The Jukebox Button?Head southwest from Neely’s Bar and make your way to Saul Street Apartments, located on—you guessed it—Saul Street. Enter through the red front door next to the “16” number. Once inside, you’ll see a map. The Neely’s Bar Note informed us we need to get to Apartment 9 on 3F. Push the cupboard blocking your path to the left. This will grant you access to the office, where you’ll find 1x Apartment Key and 1x Small Note (Memo #5). This one mentions a leak in Apartment 5—the key you just picked up is for that apartment. Head upstairs to 2F and take a right. Just before Apartment 7, you’ll notice a crawlspace. Head in and check the desk by the open window for 1x Tenant’s Note (Memo #6). Use the key to enter Apartment 5. Inside, squeeze through the two gaps in the wall and head out of the window onto the emergency staircase. Climb up and search the bathroom in the apartment you enter. Here, you’ll find a hole in the wall. James can stick his hand into it, and you’ll need to do this three times. At the very end, you’ll pull out 1x Jukebox Button. Once you have the button, leave Saul Street Apartments by heading out the open rooftop and taking the ladder back down to street level. Explore Saul Street for Extra MemosBefore heading to the next destination, there are some extra Memos to pick up around the yard with the campervan on Saul Street. There’s an enemy outside and the final Memo is inside the campervan. These include an Old Map (Memo #7), 3 Saul Street Notes (Memos #8-10), and the Motor Home Note (Memo #11). Once you’ve collected those, it’s time to head to Groovy Music. Where Is The Glue and Broken Vinyl Record?Head north on Neely Street until you reach Groovy Music on your left. Take care of the two enemies inside first, then grab 1x Record Store Note (Memo #12) off the counter. Break the glass on the back wall to access another room. On the table, you’ll find 1x Vinyl Glue and the other half of the 1x Broken Vinyl Record piece. Open your inventory and combine the two halves of the Broken Vinyl Record with Vinyl Glue to form 1x Glued Up Vinyl Record. Where Is Neely’s Bar Coin? For the final piece, head to the Texan Cafe (North East of the bar) at the end of Katz Street. Inside, interact with the cash register. Turn the key and press the button at the bottom to get 1x Neely’s Bar Coin. Be warned, an enemy will ambush you as soon as you do this! Take it out, then head back to Neely’s Bar. How do you solve the final jukebox puzzle?Back at Neely’s Bar, interact with the Jukebox. First, lower the blue cog so that the green and red cogs can extend. Grab 1x Glued Up Vinyl Record. You’ll know you’re on the right track when a piece of the machinery sticks out and prompts you to open your inventory. Place 1x Glued Up Vinyl Record into the top section of the Jukebox. Insert the missing Jukebox Button where prompted, followed by Neely’s Bar Coin into the flashing coin slot on the right. To finish the puzzle, press the blue button “C”, followed by “2”, This will play the vinyl you’ve put together and reward you with 1x Neely’s Bar Key, bringing the Jukebox puzzle to a close. |
After solving the Jukebox Puzzle, unlock the door next to the save point using 1x Neely’s Bar Key. If you continue down the main path through South Vale, many buildings will be locked off for a while.
If you want to grab everything, we strongly recommend making a save here and sweeping the area for collectibles. Below is a quick round-up of what you can find in South Vale before heading forward.

Go through the open gate to find the “greenish-blue” car you’re looking for on your right. Next to it is a bloody shirt. Interact with this to find 1x Wood Side Apartments Key. Kill the three enemies or rush past them.
At this point, a storm is brewing, and many of the buildings you could previously explore will be locked. Your next objective is to head for the Wood Side Apartments, now that you’ve got the key.
The apartments are to the west of your current position along Katz Street. Use 1x Wood Side Apartments Key to enter and continue the story.
