Because of Love
Episode 7 of Shy Season 2 begins with Pepesha confronting Kufufu about her bizarre smiling habits. Kufufu shares her opinion on smiling and why people like her do so. The two argue about their differing perspectives on it. Before Kufufu attacks Pepesha, Pepesha smiles, much to Kufufu’s shock.
Pepesha says she’s smiling because she’s happy Tzveta was still loved even after she was reborn. Kufufu is confused as to why Pepesha doesn’t hate her guts. Pepesha asks Kufufu why she values Tzveta so much. Kufufu says Tzveta never smiled when she was around Kufufu. However, Kufufu appreciates Tzveta for staying by her side at all times.
Pepesha tells Kufufu what happened during her and Tzveta’s final moments together. Then, Kufufu tells Pepesha she can regroup with her friends. Kufufu sits somewhere and Pepesha joins her. Pepesha says she wants to chat with Kufufu more. Kufufu tells Pepesha they’ll lose against the others, but Pepesha argues they’ll win.
Then, we cut away to Teru, Piltz, and Ai. Inori confronts them and uses her powers to bind all the girls with spiritual yellow rings. She sends Ai to the top of the tower to meet Utsuro (or Mai). Teru breaks free and tries to stop Inori. Inori stops Teru and attempts to fire a love arrow at her. Piltz takes the hit for Teru and Teru and her fall to the ground.
Teru yells at Inori and Piltz falls in love with Teru. Inori explains this is one of her love arrow’s abilities. Piltz uses her whip to grab Teru and summons one of her syringes. Before Piltz stabs Teru with the syringe, she somehow breaks free from the spell. Then, Piltz attacks Inori and Inori shakes it off.
Piltz tells Teru to go after Ai. Teru thinks things through and complies. Then, we return to following Mianlong’s battle with Doki. Enraged, Doki attempts to land a devastating blow on Mianlong, but he trips and falls to the ground. Mianlong attempts the same strategy and suffers from a similar result.
Doki offers Mianlong a helping hand and Mianlong wonders if things could’ve gone smoother between them under different circumstances. Then, Mianlong looks at Doki, believing he passed away. He tries moving one of Doki’s bangs to see his other eye. Doki wakes up, enraged by Mianlong’s sneaky actions. The two argue with each other over this situation.
Then, we cut away to Teru. Teru saves Ai and the two head to the top of the tower and greet Utsuro. Utsuro tells Ai and Teru to prepare for battle. She rushes at Teru and Ai, leaving them mildly injured. Utsuro tells Teru and Ai that if they don’t kill her, she’ll kill them.
We cut to Stigma rambling on a building. Stigma kidnaps one of the reporters who was reporting on the scene from a helicopter. The helicopter crashes somewhere. While on the news, Stigma introduces himself and his plan to free everyone’s hearts. He demonstrates how he can do so by placing a ring around the reporter’s finger.
The reporter transforms into a demonic entity. Stigma’s assistant Quabala cuts the camera’s feed. Stigma is happy that his message got out to the world. Then, Stardust arrives and saves the reporter. Adam tells Stardust via a calling device to handle Stigma.
The episode ends with Stardust planning to fight Quabala and Stigma.
The Episode Review
This episode of Shy Season 2 was okay. As many predicted, Pepesha used her kind words and past experiences with Tzevta to defeat Kufufu. Although some fans may have wanted more fisticuffs to ensue during their confrontation, others will argue this was a great way to resolve matters between them.
Nonetheless, it would’ve been great if we received another chapter examining their conflict further. The segment felt mildly rushed and could’ve used more time to cook in the oven. The same can be said with other segments featured in episode 7. These include Piltz breaking free from Inori’s love spell and how Doki and Mianlong seemingly resolved their differences.
Hopefully, Utsuro, Ai, and Teru’s debacle will receive proper attention and love. On the other hand, Stigma makes a grand return in the narrative. His performance on television will remind Shonen fans of the time Perfect Cell announced the Cell Games competition to the world in Dragon Ball Z.
Like Perfect Cell, one can feel the spooky aura coming off the screen as Stigma spoke of his “freeing hearts” plan. This was amplified by his “freeing hearts” demonstration with the reporter. But all in all, fans will find this episode’s material satisfying.
