Get in the Sea
Episode 7 of Shrinking Season 2 begins with Alice telling Jimmy about Summer making TikTok videos accusing her of being a cheater. Meanwhile, Sean is back home and feels like he’s on track, with his relationships improving. He’s even planning to reconnect with the friend from the army he had ghosted.
Elsewhere, Brian announces at Liz’s house, where all the friends are gathered, that he and Charlie have finally decided to adopt. Among the group is Derek’s friend, the other Derek, who is clearly interested in Gaby—and the feeling is mutual.
Gaby and Derek finally meet at the university, where they decide to go on a proper date later. Meanwhile, Jimmy takes his patient, Dan, along with him for the day to help him confront his fear of being alone with strangers, something he’ll have to face at his friend’s wedding. Meanwhile, Paul sees Liz meeting with Mac and advises her against it, warning her that Mac doesn’t just want to be friends. Liz brushes off his concerns.
Jimmy and Dan visit Alice’s school, where they discover both Alice and Summer have been suspended for physical violence stemming from Summer’s online campaign against Alice. Jimmy talks to Alice and helps her understand that Summer is going through a tough time. Alice approaches Summer, and the two reconcile.
Meanwhile, Brian and Charlie learn that they could adopt a baby as soon as that evening, sending Brian into a panic. He interrupts Gaby and Derek’s date, and the couple, along with Jimmy, Dan, and Charlie, end up at the beach. There, Brian and Charlie admit they’re not ready for parenthood and decide to stick to their DINK (Dual Income, No Kids) status.
Liz visits Mac’s microbrewery and impulsively kisses him before hastily leaving. She later confesses to Paul, who advises her to tell Derek herself. When she does, Derek doesn’t take the news well.
Elsewhere, Gaby and the other Derek confess their feelings for each other and share a kiss.
Meanwhile, Alice meets with Louis and Brian to catch them up on her life. She decides it’s time to reveal their meetings to Jimmy, and Louis agrees. On the other hand, Jimmy parts ways with Dan, who feels motivated after spending the day with strangers and even helping them make decisions. As the episode ends, Jimmy stumbles upon Alice and Brian sitting with Louis.
The Episode Review
Much of this episode felt aimless, with micro-events serving as fillers where either nothing significant happens or the scenes lack substance. For example, Brian and Charlie circling back to their DINK status feels repetitive, and Alice and Summer’s reconciliation happens a little too easily. The only notable developments are Liz’s infidelity and Jimmy’s shock at discovering Alice and Brian with Louis.
The spark that Shrinking had at the start of the season seems to have dimmed. With just three episodes remaining, it’s evident that the upcoming focus will be on Jimmy trying to come to terms with Louis’ presence in his life while Liz deals with the fallout of her actions.
