Shōgun – Season 1 Episode 3 Preview: Release Date, Time & Where To Watch

Shogun Season 1 Episode 3

FX’s hotly anticipated period drama, Shogun, recently made its debut on the network. And two days after its premiere, the show is already the highest-rated show on IMDB. The viewer reception has been extremely strong and the sentiment should only grow as we progress into the series.

Hiroyuki Sanada is among the leading names within the core cast. Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks are adapting James Clavell’s book of the same name for the teleplay.

FX had given the production a straight-to-series order. However, after spending years in production hell, Shogun has emerged as one of the topmost shows to look out for in 2024.

We are excited to bring you coverage of all the episodes in Season 1 with episodic recaps and preview articles for each new episode, assisting you to keep up with the unfolding drama.

Here is everything you need to know about Shogun Episode 3, including their release date, time, and where you can watch them.

Where Can I Watch Shogun

Shogun will be available to watch on FX Network and Hulu for our viewers in the US.

For our viewers in Canada, Australia, the UK, and most other territories, Shogun will be available to watch on Disney+.

Shogun Season 1 Episode 3 Release Date

Shogun Season 1 Episode 3 will be released on Tuesday 5th March at 12 AM E.T. This time is for the streaming release on Hulu and Disney+. New episodes will then be broadcast on FX the same day at 10 PM E.T. Expect the runtime to be roughly 55 minutes or thereabouts, which is consistent with the time frame for the first few episodes.

Shogun is a period drama and is campaigned as a prestige offering from the network. This makes it difficult to ascertain how long the episodes can be. But the initial few episodes should clear the air up. The show will stick to a weekly release schedule after the first two episodes have aired, tugging the Tuesday airings. The timings for the series will remain the same.

The new episode of Shogun is titled “Tomorrow is Tomorrow.” The episode will be available to stream with subtitles. The plot summary for Episode 3 reads: “After Blackthorne survives a brazen assassination attempt, Toranaga realizes he must ferry his allies out of Osaka or risk certain defeat.”

How Many Episodes Will Shogun Have?

Season 1 of Shogun will have a total of 10 episodes. After the third episode has aired, we will have another 7 episodes to go. So the first season is going to last for almost two months if the weekly timeline is kept intact. FX isn’t expected to make wholesale changes to the airing schedule. However, in case they do, be rest assured that you will find all the updates in these previews.

What happened in Episodes 1 & 2?

Episodes 1 & 2 of Shogun introduce the central characters and setting. The year is 1600 and the place is feudal Japan. The Taiko, its beloved ruler, has succumbed. His heir isn’t old enough to take over the throne. To manage the state, he has left political leadership in the hands of a Council of Regents. These five administrators share the responsibility to rule…but the tide has turned. Yoshii Toranaga is targeted by the other four Regents, led by Ishida.

Toranaga is protective of Yaechiyo, the late Taiko’s heir, and wants to ensure that no harm befalls him till he can stake claim to the throne. The Portuguese control all trade in the country, while also being the sole European merchants plying their business. Right under the noses of the Regents, the Portuguese are planning to take over control of Japan and the rest of the New World.

However, the regents do not know this. But there is yet another twist in the tale. John Blackthorne and his crew have set sail on the Erasmus under the seal of England’s Protestant Queen. Their sole objective is to destroy the secret Portuguese bases and open trade in the New World. Lord Yabushige, who is loyal to Toranaga but fears the fate of his clan, apprehends John’s ship.

Before he can secretly seize everything on it, Toranaga’s spy sends a message. This encourages him to send Toda Hiromatsu, his loyal general, to bring back the ship to Osaka. Although Toranaga is currently the Lord of the Kanto, he is being held prisoner in the Osaka Castle by the council of regents, who want to impeach him for holding Lady Ohciba, Yaechiy’s mother, hostage in Edo.

Yabushige and Toranaga both believe that John can change the complexion of the battle for power. The English pilot is also aware of how his knowledge of the bases and the secret plan can elevate his importance in their eyes. So, they decide to join hands and fight back against the Christian Regents on the council and the church.
