Sexy Beast – Season 1 Episode 7 “You and Me” Recap & Review

You and Me

Sexy Beast Episode 6 begins with Gal returning home after suffering the beating at the end of the last episode. Marjorie questions him about where he’s been and why he missed his stag do. She brings up Dee Dee and says Ann Marie told her about them having an affair. However, he denies it all. 

Gal and Don argue over the job as the gang is still figuring out the right way to go about it. Elsewhere, Dee Dee breaks up with her boyfriend after the beating he and his friends inflicted on Gal. 

Gal and Don are in a van. Gal tells him he’s taking him somewhere but doesn’t reveal the details. He also confronts him about what he told Marjorie. He holds his innocence and claims it was all Ann Marie. Gal tells him he’s like a tumour growing on him. Don then begins to read out his best man speech, with Gal insisting he stops. 

It is revealed where Gal is taking Don, as they turn up at his future father-in-law’s place of business and break in and steal drills to assist with the heist. 

Dee Dee visits Marjorie and asks if Gal is in. She tells her he isn’t around, and Dee wants to know if he’s alright after the beating he got. Dee Dee also lies to Marjorie and tells her nothing is going on between her and Gal. Marjorie knows she’s lying, and Dee Dee says she’s sorry.

Freddie McGraw tracks down Jackie (the woman who witnessed Teddy Bass raping him) and threatens to kill her for telling people about the incident. She claims she didn’t tell anyone, but he puts a bag over her head and she suffocates until 2 of Freddie’s father’s henchmen turn up to save her and kidnap Freddie. 

Gal has a plan set for the heist and visits Teddy Bass to tell him all about it. Teddy takes Gal on a drive and they talk about what happened at the stag do, and Teddy warns Gal and says he needs him focused on the job. 

Rumours are going around about Freddie McGraw being raped, and the story gets back to his father, who wants to know who did it. His henchman reveals it was Teddy Bass who did it. Freddie McGraw meets with his father and smashes his own head on the table. His father tells him he can sort out whatever has gone on. Later on, McGraw Snr is frustrated with Freddie and beats him up. Freddie responds by shooting his father in the head. 

Marjorie goes down to the Eagle pub, all dressed up and flirting with anyone who will show interest in her. Gal heads down there to sort it out. Marjorie is on the dancefloor with a man and Gal hits him and pulls her out of the pub. She tells him he’s broken her heart and returns to the pub. Gal goes back in and fights break out with the locals. Marjorie tells the whole pub that Gal has been cheating on her with an adult performer. Gal reacts angrily and tells everyone “F**k the lot of ya.” He then looks down at a wound on his side and discovers Marjorie has stabbed him with her heels and he’s bleeding.  

The Episode Review

This is another below-par episode in this pointless prequel series to the classic gangster movie. It’s so slow, and the heist still hasn’t got going, and it feels more like an episode of Eastenders, with the relationship drama taking centre stage.

There are a couple of good scenes, with the highlight being Freddie McGraw trying to kill the woman who witnessed his rape, and then the subsequent murder of his father. Otherwise, this is a pretty dull episode.
