Episode 6 Recap

The recap of Episode 6 of Serendipity’s Embrace (i.e. Is It Fate) starts with Hu-yeong and Hong-ju making out as they confess their feelings for each other. Hu-yeong takes Hong-ju on a date and asks her to eat up. Hong-ju is shy and awkward at first but feels reassured when Hu-yeong reassures her.

The two make it back to Seoul that night and CEO Baek tries to get in touch with his nephew but Hu-yeong ignores his calls. Outside the house, Hu-yeong asks to take Hong-ju for dinner but decides to go meet CEO Baek who forces him to get inside the house.

There, CEO Baek grills Hu-yeong about resigning from his job in the USA. He reveals that his sister i.e. Hu-yeong’s mother has asked him to look into the matter. Hu-yeong tells CEO Baek that he is not going to return to the USA because he likes Hong-ju and refuses to listen to his uncle.

That night, Hu-yeong’s friend – Joseph from back in the States calls him. Joseph wonders why Hu-yeong resigned and the latter blames it all on Serendipity. He calls Hong-ju and asks to meet her but the latter refuses, stating that she is already in bed. Hu-yeong flirts with Hong-ju over the phone and the couple call it a night.

The next day, Hu-yeong tries to get breakfast with Hong-ju but learns that she was out on a girl date with Hye-ji. Hye-ji gets her hair permed for her hiking trip with Mr Sohn and her dad the following day. Hong-ju gets influenced by Hye-ji and gets her hair permed too.

That night, the two friends get together at Sang-pil’s restaurant. Sang-pil is about to mention Hong-ju’s contract with Jun-ho in front of Hye-ji but is stopped when Hong-ju attacks him. Hu-yeong is upset as he waits for Hong-ju to reach out to him. Hong-ju shows up outside the house escorting a drunk CEO Baek.

CEO Baek is upset with his ex and tries to talk to her over the phone. Hong-ju talks to the person on the other line, not knowing it is her boss – CEO Bae. Hu-yeong drops CEO Baek home and rushes back to meet Hong-ju after not being able to see his girlfriend all day. He compliments her hairdo and asks her out on an official date the next day.

The next morning, Hong-ju and Hu-yeong get dressed for their date. Hye-ji also gets dressed for the trekking trip with Mr Sohn and her dad. Mr Kim tells Hye-ji that Mr Sohn is unwell and will not be making it to the trek that day. Hye-ji tries to tell her dad about her feelings for Mr Sohn but her dad refuses to take her seriously.

She is upset and has nothing to do, so, Hye-ji decides to hang out with Hong-ju, interrupting her date with Hu-yeong. Hu-yeong sits hand-in-hand with Hong-ju at the cafe which makes Hye-ji feel left out. Hu-yeong suggests that Hye-ji visit Mr Sohn. At the same time, Mr Sohn gets out of bed and tries to grab a bite. He finds the text from Hye-ji and wonders how to respond to her.

Just then, Mr Sohn’s mother shows up at his house to check up on him. A while later, Mr Sohn steps out of the house to hail a cab for his mother. Just then, Hye-ji shows up near Mr Sohn’s house and runs into his mother. Mr Sohn’s mother, who was already giving her son an earful about being unmarried finds Hye-ji to be an eligible candidate to marry Mr Sohn.

The woman chats with Hye-ji and talks to her about the fertility of the men in the Sohn family, embarrassing Mr Sohn. Mr Sohn yells at his mother and sends her away, leaving Hye-ji confused.

After Mr Sohn’s mother leaves, Hye-ji tries to help the PE teacher get home. Mr Sohn is shocked and pushes Hye-ji’s arm off. Hye-ji takes this as a rejection and goes back home, upset.

Meanwhile, Jun-ho shows up to meet his uncle – Mr Kim and is shocked to learn that Hu-yeong used to be his student in high school. The two discuss Jun-ho’s breakup with Hong-ju. Mr Kim asks Jun-ho to leave Hong-ju alone after what he did to her all those years ago. Jun-ho is upset by his uncle’s reaction.

Hong-ju and Hu-yeong keep stealing glances at each other as the latter drives them to an art gallery. The couple chats in the car, flirting with each other. This continues in the art gallery and Hu-yeong tells Hong-ju how his heart flutters every time she calls him by his name. He tells Hong-ju how he has liked her from high school and still likes her.

CEO Baek interrupts their date and calls Hu-yeong home due to an emergency. Hu-yeong drops Hong-ju home and promises to meet her the following evening. Hong-ju runs home and finds her box of memories from high school. She reads her essay on “Ambition” where she mentions Hu-yeong’s name after picking his ambition from their conversation in the pit.

Hu-yeong meets his mother in her hotel room and has a hostile conversation with the woman. Hu-yeong tells Do-seon that he is not going to return to the USA with her but the latter refuses to listen to him. The next day, Hye-ji goes to work as normal but Mr Sohn is jumpy around her. He is shocked to see that Hye-ji has cleaned and returned his shoes and is acting very formally around him.

At the same time, Hu-yeong gets ready for her day of work at Jun-ho’s house. She is about to meet Hu-yeong before work but learns that he is not at home. She waits at the bus stop as she usually does while Hu-yeong drives to the RockAsset Office with his mother. Do-seon spots Hong-ju at the bus stop and recognises her from the night she met her 10 years ago.

Meanwhile, Hong-ju worries if Hu-yeong is doing okay. On the other hand, Mr Sohn tries to muster up the courage to apologise to Hye-ji for being rude to her. He catches her on her way to class and messes up the apology. Hye-ji misunderstands Mr Sonh’s words and gets sad, wondering why the PE Teacher is being so rude to her.

Hye-ji apologises to him again and promises to never trouble him with her feelings again. At RockAsset, CEO Baek is jumpy due to his sister’s presence at the office. Do-seon tells CEO Baek that she too was going to live in South Korea full-time now that Hu-yeong had resigned from his job. Coincidentally, Hong-ju arrives at Jun-ho’s house and sits at the desk.

Jun-ho hopes to find a way to bring up his panic attacks and mental health issues with Hong-ju, to explain his circumstances during their breakup. Hong-ju does not pay heed to any of the clues Jun-ho had laid out for her in the form of their memories together. Jun-ho tries to insist on working with Hong-ju for longer but the latter refuses and is about to go home when Jun-ho collapses due to an anxiety attack.

A flashback from 10 years ago shows Hu-yeong waiting at the bus stop across from Hong-ju. He gets a call from his mother about the move to the USA and he takes the bus before Hong-ju can cross the street. Do-seon, who is observing her son from her car by the bus stop notices Hu-yeong looking at Hon-ju.

When Hong-ju crosses the road, she is upset to see that Hu-yeong has taken the bus. Do-seon joins Hong-ju at the bus stop and asks her to take the anime CDs Hu-yeong had left behind. Hong-ju finds the interaction with Do-seon odd and leaves as the episode comes to an end. Now that we are done with the recap of Episode 6 of Serendipity’s Embrace, let’s head on to the review.

The Episode Review

As cute as this episode of Serendipity’s Embrace was, it is a bummer that the show only has 2 episodes left. From what we can see in this episode, I find Do-seon’s connection with Hong-ju confusing. It is not clear what she was doing in her car that night if she informed Hu-yeong about their move to the USA via a phone call. Also, why would a parent discuss such an important detail via call? Sus.

Meanwhile, the romance between Hye-ji and Mr Sohn has me so upset that we have to wait until next week for the next episode. The two are so cute and clearly in love. I am certain the two will end up together but that makes me very sad for Sang-pil.

Given CEO Baek’s fling with CEO Bae, Sang-pil is the only cast member left alone. Maybe he can hook up with Jun-ho, which will surely make this a perfectly balanced romance K-drama.
