Seoul Busters episode 8 starts with the new special investigation team arriving at the station. Joong-ryeok tries to be difficult, but Yu-bin orders him to let it go.
While the special investigation team wastes time catching up on the case, Yu-bin and Min-seo follow a lead on Yong-jin. It turns out that Yong-jin, Yoo-na’s dad, was involved in a school violence case when he was a teenager. Yong-jin was accused of bullying a young man called Chang-su.
To get more information, Yu-bin invites Min-seo to the high school reunion of Yong-jin’s former school. Min-seo misunderstands when Yu-bin invites her to the hotel and harshly scolds him. She comes down when she understands that he wants them to go undercover and plays along.
Thanks to their efforts, they learn that Chang-su got into a serious accident when running from Yong-jin and his bully gang. Upon further investigation, they discover that Chang-su never recovered from the accident. He spent 13 years in a coma before dying three years ago.
Meanwhile, things continue to get tense at Jung-hwan’s house. Yoo-eun dares Jung-hwan to be more ambitious and try to suck up to the new special investigation team leader. She brings up his Olympic loss and accuses her husband of blaming her for his shortcomings. Her words hurt Jung-hwan as there is a ring of truth in them.
The next day, Joong-ryeok sees Jung-hwan trying to be nice to the other team and warns him not to suck up to them. However, Jung-hwan still goes to great lengths to get the new team leader hang-over soup and get on his good side.
At the same time, Yong-jin tries to borrow some funds for the ransom money. He gets another message from the kidnapper. This time, a bloody doll is delivered to his doorstep by a courier.
Yu-bin finds it strange that the kidnapper switched to sending messages with via a courier. However, his team keeps this new information to themselves while the other team focuses on Seo-hun. Yu-bin promises to take the fall if the higher-ups discipline the team.
Jung-hwan contemplates telling the new team about their investigation, but Dong-goo talks him out of betraying his team. Yu-bin and his team continue looking into Chang-su. They discover that his next of kin was his only sister, but she went MIA three months ago.
Joong-ryeok convinces her former employee to bring a video of the lady to compare to the kidnapping video. After reviewing the footage, Yu-bin is more convinced that Chang-su’s sister, Mi-jeong, is the culprit. According to the information they found, Mi-jeong suffered from heavy depression after her brother died. She may be seeking revenge.
In the meantime, Yu-bin gets a call from the special team leader, asking for support from his team. The special investigation team has zeroed in on their suspect, Seo-hun, and needs backup when they go to arrest him.
Yu-bin gladly agrees to help and comes along with two members of his team. On the other hand, he sends Jung-hwan and Joong-ryeok to track Mi-jeong’s last known address.
Jung-hwan pretends to be a civil servant carrying out mandated inspections of the building and gets into Mi-jeong’s house. He immediately sees Yoo-na’s photos on her table. However, Mi-jeong sees his handcuffs first and attacks him. She then rushes out with Yoo-na and gets in her car.
Joong-ryeok tries to stop her but Mi-jeong manages to start the car and starts racing off. Thankfully, Jung-hwan shoots her tyre and she rams on the side road. Joong-ryeok and Jung-hwan safely extricate Yoo-na from the car and take Mi-jeong away.
It turns out that Mi-jeong coincidentally came across Yong-jin and his family at the restaurant she used to work at. She was pissed that Yong-jin was living a happy life without a care in the world when her brother suffered until his death.
She felt it was unfair and wanted Yong-jin to feel what it is like to lose a family member. However, she couldn’t bring herself to kill Yoo-na as she had initially planned.
As the team takes Mi-jeong away, Yoo-na still shows her kindness and gives her a lollipop. Yong-jin also sincerely apologises, causing Mi-jeong to break down.
Later, Jung-hwan video calls his family and they congratulate him for solving the case. The episode ends with the special investigation team leaving and Jung-hwan still tries to win over the leader by giving him healthy drinks for his hair growth.
The Episode Review
Once again, Seoul Busters gives us a poignant scene when Yong-jin finally apologises to Mi-jeong. While what Mi-jeong did was wrong, we can see how her pain brought her to this point.
Yong-jin’s actions ruined their family forever. However, Yong-jin continued his life without ever bothering to apologise until it was too late. Bullying is terrible and the trauma it inflicts never really ends.
As for Jung-hwan, he still made the right decision and didn’t betray his team. It is quite funny how Dong-goo is always around to tease the team and advise them when they are struggling.
At this point, he might as well be part of the team. I wonder where his parents are. That kid is always at the police station being a naughty, yet cute and intelligent boy.
