Episode 5
Episode 5 kicks off in 2007 with a witness heading to court to testify. The place is packed with media and spectators, so the police direct the man to park his car in a nearby parking lot within walking distance of the court.
Today is the mass trial for the 2004 blast that claimed many lives; Emilio and Gabriel are arrested for allegedly supplying dynamite to the jihadists responsible for the attack. The witness explains how he was at the station when the explosion occurred.
The man recalls hearing a phone ring multiple times on the train, and when it rang for the fifth time, the explosion happened. He suffered severe injuries, including ruptured lungs and burst eardrums, and was trapped among the people thrown by the blast. Another witness later steps forward to share his victim’s statement.
The scene shifts to 2004, where we see Gabriel having breakfast with Emilio. Emilio is enjoying his steak, but Gabriel isn’t touching his food. Emilio asks Gabriel to retrieve a car from Madrid, promising that he can keep it if he brings it back. On the way back, Gabriel gets into a serious accident, but luckily he survives.
However, he does receive three citations for driving underage and without a license. Emilio shows up at Gabriel’s house, reprimanding him for not driving carefully. He’s furious because the car Gabriel was driving was stolen, and there’s a risk that the cops could trace it back to Emilio. Emilio becomes even more hysterical when Mowgli starts to ignore his calls, but this is nothing compared to what Emilio learns next.
In a restaurant, Emilio learns about the train explosion and immediately realizes that it is the Moors’ doing. On the other hand, Gabriel is in denial and doesn’t believe the Moors would do such a thing. Deep down, he knows the Moors are responsible, but he’s in denial because he has helped them in some way.
Emilio is all worked up when he meets Ramon, insisting that the Moors are the masterminds behind the Madrid attack. Ramon, however, isn’t buying it. Emilio tries to convince him by mentioning that the Moors were on the lookout for dynamite, conveniently leaving out the fact that he supplied them.
Despite Emilio’s efforts, Ramon doesn’t buy his story. A few days later, Ramon calls Emilio to the police station for a meeting with some higher-ups, eager to hear Emilio’s side of the story.
