Who is Saeki Nobutatsu?
In FX’s Shōgun, Saeki Nobutatsu is the disagreeable (and flamboyant) half-brother of Lord Toranaga.
When does Saeki Nobutatsu appear in Shōgun?
Saeki Nobutatsu first appears in Episode 7 of the 10-episode series. He’s mentioned in Episode 6 as a key part of Toranaga’s ‘Crimson Sky’ plan, with Nobutatsu’s army potentially pivotal in making up the numbers for Toranaga’s impending battle. When Nobutatsu does show up, it’s certainly with a flourish.

Who is Saeki Nobutatsu based on?
Matsudaira Iemoto (1548-1603) was a Japanese samurai from the Sengoku to early Edo period. Believed to be an illegitimate son of Matsudaira Hirotada of Okazaki, this would make him the half-brother of Tokugawa Ieyasu, known as Lord Yoshii Toranaga in the novel and series.
What happens to Saeki Nobutatsu?
For betraying Lord Toranaga, Ishido gives him a seat as one of the 5 members of the Council of Regents.
Who plays Saeki Nobutatsu?
Saeki Nobutatsu is played by 38-year-old Eita Okuno. You can catch him in Japanese dramas Tokyo Vice, and Alice in Borderland S2 to name a few. He currently appears in Crunchyroll’s RoOT (2024).
