There are detectives which makes you sit on the edge of your seat and ponder over the next scene, and then there is Ron Kamonohashi who makes the situation so easygoing that you won’t even realise when a crime has been passed. Ron Kamonohashi is the main character from the detective comedy anime Ron Kamonohashi’s Forbidden Deductions. This anime follows Isshiki Totomaru, a bumbling detective who is looked down by his colleagues. As fate would have it, he is paired up with Ron Kamonohashi.

Now Ron is not your regular detective. He has the sharpest skills and can make deductions from the most trivial of situations. He has a murky past though, which has led to his sabbatical. But he is out in the world now, solving crimes alongside Isshiki. Along the way, Isshiki learns a thing or two while working with Ron.

To the fans of the detective genre, Ron and Isshiki’s pairing might ring familiar bells to that of a famous Western detective duo – Holmes and Watson. The similarity is more than just characteristic. Ron is the heir of the Holmes-Moriarty bloodline. He is unaware of this fact in the show so far, but he would come to deduce that eventually.

Across 13 episodes, Ron and Isshiki solve cases which seem absurd and out of the ordinary. The incidents that happen are brilliantly orchestrated to make it seem like an error, but nothing can escape Ron’s sharp vision.

Ron Kamonohashi’s Forbidden Deductions is a fun and entertaining anime series. With just the right amount of absurd humour, slapstick comedy, engaging criminal cases and an intriguing backstory for Ron, this anime is a good choice for those who wish to get their brain running on solving mysteries in an entertaining way.
