Rescue: HI-Surf – Season 1 Episode 8 Recap & Review

Drop in

Episode 8 of Rescue: HI-Surf starts with a man and a woman paragliding over the ocean. The man is an expert, but the woman is scared, and rightfully so. A few minutes into their paragliding adventure, they come crashing down into the ocean. The woman tries to free the man from the paraglider seat but is pulled away by the waves.

Elsewhere, Sonny meets with the chief and informs him that he is resigning. He adds that he wants Emily to take his position, but the Chief says it won’t be possible. He thinks Kenji is more up for it. The chief has nothing personal against Emily, just politics and bureaucracy bias!

On the other side of town, Kainalu runs into his ex and she invites him to a lunch party with all their former schoolmates. Kainalu agrees to go but invites Hina. The party is not exactly Hina’s scene, but she gets offended when Kainalu’s ex and her boyfriend make it look like being a lifeguard is a failure. She defends Kainalu and they take some expensive alcohol bottles before leaving.

Meanwhile, things are tense between Will and Emily. Laka warns Sonny that there is trouble in paradise. As they talk, a call about the paragliders comes through. The team rushes to save the paragliders and finds the man unconscious. They are able to resuscitate him, but no one tells the team about the woman. On the other hand, Sonny asks Emily if things are okay between him and Will. She lies and says it is all good. When Laka asks Will, he tells him the truth about why Emily is angry at him.

After rescuing the man, Sonny asks Emily to pull rank and inform Will he needs to do his recert. Will assumes that Emily is trying to be petty because of their fight. Away from the Will and Emily drama, Laka finds himself in trouble with Jenn. She sees him getting a card from another woman and assumes he is back in his player era and kicks him to the curb.

A few hours later, the man the team rescued wakes up and informs them about the missing woman. The team starts looking for Cassandra. Thankfully, Casandra is a former collegiate swimmer and leads an active lifestyle. The team gets a signal from her smartwatch and starts scouring the area. They get to the location but all they can see are a lot of reefs. Emily suggests they search for her underneath the reef caves. Sonny cautiously agrees. Will and Emily volunteer to go inside the caves as they know the way.

Inside the cave, it takes a while for them to find Cassandra. However, Emily insists on checking every spot, even against Sonny’s orders. Finally, she finds and saves Cassandra. Sonny is happy about it and asks her to speak to the media waiting on the sidelines. Later, Will calls Julie to tell her about his amazing day but she is busy and distracted. Meanwhile, Cassandra thanks Emily and credits her for saving her life on the news segment.

After their shift, the team celebrates Emily. Sonny pulls her side and informs her he is resigning. He congratulates her for being ready to take his position and talks as if it is a signed deal. Emily realises that Sonny asked her to pull rank with Will to see if she is ready. The episode ends with Will and Emily talking.

She admits that she gets why Julie doesn’t want her at the wedding. She acknowledges that things will be changing between them and she regrets that she blew her chance with Will. They kiss and Will gets in the car. For a few seconds, he contemplates driving off, but then he asks Emily to get in the car.

The Episode Review

It is not surprising that Will and Emily are passionately kissing. The two have had unfinished business for so long. With the wedding coming up, the two have a lot of what-ifs, but that is no excuse to be French kissing each other. There is Julie and the beautiful heartthrob is Sean. Our beloved Sean wants Emily to move with him to Kauai and take the captain’s position that opened up there. The sweet and attentive, Sean with a killer smile. He deserves better than to be cheated on and so does Julie.

On the brighter side, Kainalu and Hina are getting closer. Based on next week’s trailer, they might end up in bed together. How exciting! I love their enemy to lovers arch. Unfortunately, our cute playboy, Laka, is not scoring any points with Jenn. His past reputation is killing his chances, but he is a smooth guy. There is still a chance to win Jenn’s heart.
