The Wilds is a teen-driven desert island survival thriller. There are a whole smattering characters, twists, turns and surprises, culminating in a dramatic finale.

Given the way this second season ends, you may be wondering if this one’s been renewed or cancelled.

What is The Wilds Season 2 about?

The second season of The Wilds shifts the focus across to the other island we learned about during the season 1 finale. The girls are not alone. Here, we learn more about the boys and their plight. The season flits back and forth between the two groups as we see how they survive their ordeals.

Has The Wilds been renewed for season 3?

At the time of writing, Amazon have not renewed The Wilds for season 3. Given the respectable ratings over the weeks, and the mystery that grips this series, it’s perhaps surprising to see Amazon give it the chop.

Amazon have a pretty good track record with renewing their shows but 2022 has not been a good year for the steamer. After spending record amounts of money on Rings of prime, they’ve been on a bit of a cancellation spree. According to Deadline, The Wilds has been officially cancelled and axed at Amazon Prime.

Why was The Wilds cancelled?

Although an exact reason hasn’t been given, according to the folks over at Deadline, it would seem that reaction to season 2 was more “subdued” compared to the first season. However, when you look at the show itself there could be signs that this venture was running out of steam.

Season 2 essentially doubled the cast list, recycling the same plot but with double the number of characters. Perhaps Amazon saw it as more feasible to axe the show than pay out so much in wages for the cast. Not only that but filming on location at such a gorgeous paradise may not have been cheap either. But again, for a studio happy to throw away millions on a Lord of the Rings project garnering a lot of heat and hate online, it’s a little perplexing that this show would get the chop.

Unless another studio picks this up, it seems this is the end of the road for the girls and boys in The Wilds.

  4. Well, if not another season then at least a few more episodes. We need to see their reactions to learning that Jennette was a plant, and Nora was in on it all and didn’t die. Those two loose ends need to be wrapped up. It would also be nice to see the parents reactions to being duped into sending their kids off to be lab rats….and the reactions of the teens when they finally connect all the dots.

  5. The writers promised a 4? season arc. It looks like the two groups are trapped together to fend for themselves. The party is just getting started. Give the fans at least season 3! There’s a lot of storyline to cover.

  7. As a father of four and grandfather of five, I would be interested in learning how the parents/primary caregivers react to the changes these kids go through. I want to know how the kids are different from where they began once they are back in the real world they left. And, I would like to see the adult’s reactions to these changes. Personally, for example, I would love to see Shelby accept her sexual orientation and stand up to her father. And, how does he react to that?

    They need to keep the same writers, why mess with perfection?

  24. If there is a season 3 it needs to bring back the characters that “supposed” to have died and the moles to bring down the researcher but make it a 4 season mystery.

  26. My husband and I totally bought into the intriguing premise of this series. The personality strengths and weaknesses of the characters drew us in from the very beginning. The guys and gals need to join together in Season 3 and let the viewers see the conflicts and elegances that evolve in the group. We will be very disappointed if this series is not renewed. Please bring it back, and sooner not later!!

The ending left too many questions…to many vignettes that came and went…which seems to me to have been preludes to what may come…and anyway…I want to see Gretchen get her deserved come-uppance…as a researcher with no soul. The writing and acting and mes en scenes are amazing. If you don’t renew anything else…Amazon…please continue with this story. I didn’t stay up till 4 in the morning… only to be left hanging!

    Too many great series end short of the answers we viewers seek.
    One example is ‘firefly’!! Just look at the following it has now, and they shot it down after 1 season.
    So yes, while ever the writers keep leaving unanswered questions, then please keep giving us the episodes that answer them….

    There are so many more options and scenarios that could be explored going forward with this series.

    I was hesitant to watch this thinking it was just another “Lord of the Flies “ premise. It is and, it is not.

    I watched both seasons back to back in 2 days. It was.so well done.

    I am a white, 62yr old man. I am also gay and, I was raised in an ultra religious cult manner. I related to many of these characters for other reasons that mirrored my life when I was their age. Maybe even now.

    I feel blessed, so to speak, that a larger percentage of the current generation can take for granted just being who they are, sometimes.

    This series reminds anyone watching that not everything is as it seems. Lessons are stilled to be learned. Everyone has a chance to improve.

    Gretchen is no better than any other toxic person in power. Everyone is abused to get the results they want. Female or Male.

    These characters have a chance to prove that attitudes, bias and the affect of negative life lessons can be changed, unlearned and modified.

    I may have read more into the message of the series. I believe that it was designed and written to be thought provoking. Lessons, possibly learned, in the guise of entertainment. Bravo!

    ONCE AGAIN, I vote a big YES for more seasons!

  52. Wow…. no way can you cheat us out of season three. So many questions so many possibilities. The transformation of the characters is incredible but we need to know what comes next. That and I really need that crazy women to pay the price for her actions. Bring it on!!!

  53. Oh my god this program is amazing, my partner was watching it when I got home from work, but was on season 1 episode 3, I only got to see the last half-hour of that episode but from that point I was hooked. You have to make a season 3, so many people will be so angry if you don’t.

Like i neeed to know lol what happends now are they going to stick toguether and try to get out of there is it going to be fbi when ian goes and see them?   60. Definitely hooked on this show. There are way too many loose ends. Why is Nora in on this, how do they justify her sisters hand being severed (lawsuit). It’s not Enough that she is stranded on an island, but to lose a hand. We need to understand some of the characters and their lives before the supposed plane crash. If there isn’t a third season, one and two would have been for nothing. We need to see how the two groups interact and how it all plays out. Season three soon, please!!!

  67. Why put out those 2 seasons and not have another. Christ given the way season 1 and 2 when I’m not even a writer and I have a bunch of ideas for good stuff to happen.   68. There definitely needs to be a season 3. I want to see the lady that heads up the program suffer the way she has made these kids suffer or atleast the families if the kids be compensated. Anyways no matter how it will be written there should be another season. This is an excellent show. Very truth revealing and in a lot of ways can be healing. It’s also exciting and somewhat dangerous at times. I t really does test their strengths an weaknesses and can hel them to overcome many obstacles in their lives. But I do believe that every island should Be equipped with more bunker foods and some X-rays waters and medical supplies. The kids should never ever have had to worry about their lives being in any danger from wild animals and sharks. There needs to be a way to totally prevent that type of danger

    I stayed clued the tv.
    Would love to see a season 3, sooner then later at my age.
