Renewed Or Cancelled?

The Outlaws, Stephen Merchant’s dramedy about seven strangers who meet when they have to do community service together, recently ended its second season on the BBC (the first season is available on Prime Video in the US).

As well as creating the show, Merchant also had a starring role in the series, and he was joined by a talented cast of other actors, including Hollywood legend Christopher Walken.

If you have enjoyed the show, you will understandably be keen to see a third season. But has the show been renewed? Or has it now been cancelled? Here’s what we know.

Will The Outlaws Be Back For A Season 3?

At the time of writing, a third season has been confirmed according to Variety.

But as well as finding a story idea to ensure the show’s continuation, a third season will likely depend on the actors’ schedules too. As such, it might be a little while before the show is back on our screens unless the actors involved have the time to unite for another go-round of community service.

Who could be in Season 3?

As there were no character disappearances or deaths in the last season, despite the dangers they faced when dealing with a dangerous drug gang, it is likely that all of the ‘outlaws’ will make a return.

As you will know already if you have seen the show, these include Christopher Walken as Frank; Stephen Merchant as Greg; Darren Boyd as John; Clare Perkins as Myrna; Eleanor Tomlinson as Gabby; Rhianne Barreto as Rani; and Gamba Cole as Christian.

The real star of the show, perhaps, is Jessica Gunning, who played Diane, the Police Community Support Officer who was placed in charge of the motley crew of offenders. She certainly provided some of the biggest laughs in the first two seasons so we hope her bumbling character returns in the third season.

What could happen in Season 3?

It’s hard to say at this point as the second season ended neatly, with the various plot threads of the season nicely tied up. If you have seen the season, you will know that it featured the characters getting into trouble after finding (and spending) stolen drug money. They then ran into a sinister drug lord and pretended to be drug dealers in an effort to take down the baddie and save themselves. I won’t say any more as I don’t want to give away any spoilers, especially for viewers in the US who may not have caught up with the second season yet.

In season 3, the ‘outlaws’ may likely get into another predicament but as to what that might be, we’ll just have to wait and see.

When could we see Season 3?

The first two seasons were filmed back-to-back which is why Season 2 followed on from Season 1 so quickly. Reports reveal that Season 3 is currently in production. But we don’t know when filming might begin but here’s hoping it’s sooner rather than later as we don’t want to wait too long for the further adventures of Greg and his other partners in crime (rehabilitation).

That’s all we know for now but we aim to update this page when we get new information.

  1. I am a huge Christopher Walken fan and hope to see this amazing series return for season, three and more. Perhaps one of the characters could get into trouble and they reunite to help that character out. They are after all family. The acting was award worthy. The writing was brilliant. The costuming, spot on! Fingers crossed for its continuing! Kudos!

  3. I enjoyed it, but I do like the way it all wrapped up and is ended. Sometimes shows just have to be over.

  4. Loved this show! One of the few things I have gotten my husband to watch and he liked too! It’s hilarious and it still has a storyline! All the characters are important so I would hope they all return. Come on, please!

  10. We love the show and I’m sure it wouldn’t be difficult to see the Dean getting off and coming after them and having Diane involved in some zany way.

  11. It was a very finely crafted denouement and I was satisfied with everything with the possible exception of the final about 10 minutes, but would very much come back for a third season. Every character was wonderful. Long may they stumble into trouble.

  13. I hope this lovely set of characters is laid to rest and there’s no season 3. If this glass of wine is left open to air for another go around, it will likely spoil. It lived — that’s enough.

  15. We binged right through Season 2 because we fell in love with these characters. I think Christopher Walken steals the show. Would love to see his character reconcile with his daughter & grandkids. Greg & his new tomatoes with Annette, Ronnie & whether stealing the car means she’s choosing a life if crime. Great show!!! Please give us more!!!!

  18. Please, please, please let there be a Season 3 of The Outlaws!!! Massively brilliant writing, plot lines, and acting! I just finished Season 2 on Amazon Prime and will need to watch it all again. Miss these characters already!

  19. Terrific show! One of the best I’ve seen! Incredibly funny and extremely witty! Stephen Merchant is a genius! The cast is perfect, but there is room to add a new character or two. I like the fact that we get to know all the characters through various episodes. Bring on another season!!!

  20. I really enjoyed all the characters of the show. The actors really did a great job in their rolls. But the writers of the show deserve the praise and recognition of their work. Season 3 would be challenging, but I look forward to seeing more!

  22. Loved this show! Yes please, to a third season and more. Loved all the characters, but especially Christopher Walken. I thought the show was intriguing, suspenseful and fun! I think there could be more great adventures ahead with all the characters

  23. Rani’s departure in the end leaves an opening for season 3. It could revive around her antics and reunite the cast as they get drawn in. YES to a third season

  26. Would love to see a season 3 and more. They seemed to wrap it up at the end, but they can come up with the next story line easily for these great actors. Maybe they already have.

  27. Love this show & the entire cast work so well together! A season 3 would be great. Since season 2 ended with Rani giving in to her darker more daring side, season 3 could have the gang rescuing her from some new & dangerous predicament. Would love to see Christian getting involved to help lead her back to the honest side of life as we saw at the end of season 2 Rani had shown him he could be more than a drug dealer. Definitely need more Christopher Walken & Steve Merchant!

  29. I absolutely loved the entire cast, the plots and the various personalities that seem to fit in some quirky way. If I had to choose a favorite character it would be a toss up between Greg and Diane, honestly they all were great! I would definitely love to see a season 3, the only part I did not like was Rani leaving Ben, hopefully, if there is a season 3 she finally lay her issues to rest and reunite with Ben.

  31. I loved this show and have watched both seasons twice in two days!! There HAS to be a season 3 (and 4 and 5 etc) Even “Seinfeld” gave us 9 seasons and that was a show about “nothing.” I think Steve Merchant and his cohorts in writing, have the imagination and talent to give us more episodes with this brilliant crew of actors (there wasn’t a character I didn’t like). They don’t have to be at the “centre” they can have any adventure that the writers want them to. Please bring them back.

  33. Love the show! A 3rd season would be great. I can see some characters moving on, but the premise of the show is so good with the diversity of characters and the dynamics of the relationships developed.

    It ended at the right time. It was bittersweet, especially for Ben and Rani, and it was just … right.

  36. I just finished watching season 2 of Outlaws and i enjoyed it very much .I would like to see a season 3 but where would the writers go with it where would they take the characters? If there is a season 3 it would have to be really good.

  39. Yes, ABSOLUTELY!! I would love to see all of the characters have open schedules to come back for Season 3! Please to all the powers that be, I hope this will happen! My favorite parts from the show are… I am really looking forward to seeing what takes place in the lives of Ben and Rani now after Rani’s decision. Next, I must know what will take place in Greg’s life with his love interest (which seems to be the female version of him) and what will be his new job. Lastly, I am so glad John is suing his Dad, Myrna finally let her walls of pride come down and turned over The Community Center to Claire. Very happy that Gabby went to seek treatment! I must see what comes from these positive changes they are all making happen for themselves.

  42. I’d love another Season 3 but they did finish off 2 so well not sure how another story involving them all again would work.
