The Longest Night is the latest thriller on Netflix, combining elements from Prison Break and La Casa De Papel into a high-octane and breathless series.

If you’ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this one’s been renewed or cancelled. Well, read ahead and we’ll let you know what we know so far about a renewal!

What is The Longest Night about?

The story is simple enough, with several layers to its conflict. At the heart of this is a serial killer known as Simon. In the middle of the night, he’s arrested and moved to a psychiatric prison called Baruca, where Warden Hugo is called in on the eve of Christmas to process him.

Unbeknownst to poor Hugo and the others, armed mercenaries are en-route and intend to take Simon alive, having been hired by a mysterious contractor, who has his own plans for the night.

So with mercenaries on the way, Hugo’s situation is made all the more precarious when he learns his other daughter, Laura, is being held to ransom. If they don’t hear from Simon at 1am then they’re going to kill her. This puts Hugo in an impossible situation, juggling the life of his family against the lives of those inside the prison.

Has The Longest Night been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, The Longest Night has not been renewed for a second season. Given the ending though, this one is almost screaming for a sequel given nothing is resolved in the end.

Generally Netflix gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate per episode. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Irregulars). Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.

So far, The Longest Night has had a mixed reception from critics and audiences alike. The pacing is absolutely breathless in this one and whether people connect with the characters or not is up for debate.

Given how similar this show is to the likes of La Casa De Papel (which is ongoing through its Korean remake counterpart), we’re predicting that The Longest Night will not be renewed for a second season.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix have not green-lit a sequel.

However, if the streaming giants do renew this one, we’re obviously going to see a continuation of all these plot points. Will Raquel have her baby inside the prison? Will Laura survive her ordeal? How will Simon fare inside the prison? And what will Manuela do now that she learns Espada is still alive?

Despite all these questions, we’re going out on a limb and thinking The Longest Night is going to be a summer casualty and there will not be a season 2. We will aim to update this page when more information becomes available!

    I have considered dropping Netflex, this is the kind practice that might send me over the edge. It is pointless to not finish it. This is why people are leaving. Sorry business practice.

  3. This is so wrong to air a show, get us all invested in the story, leave huge cliffhangers, and then leave us hanging with no answers by not bringing it back for season 2! DON’T do this to your viewer’s Netflix! All this does is make us not trust and walk we away! Horrible business practice! Get a clue and do better! Treat your customers right!!!! BRING (THE LONGEST NIGHT) BACK AND GIVE US ARE ANSWERS!!!! We don’t pay you to screw us over!

  4. I think they should end it. I don’t like when they have a limited ending in nothingness. This isn’t worth investing more hours never knowing what’s going to happen. It is too vague; just a lot of action with never ending conclusions. I won’t be watching it again , even if Netflix agrees to another season. this is turned out to be a snooze fest; a waste of my time.

I have invested 6 hours in this series, and it was well worth it… really enjoyed it… but I will be really really pissed off if there’s not a second series… just got to know all the characters AND there are far too many unanswered questions to just leave it as it is. Half the stuff on Netflix is rubbish so why when they produce good stuff do they fail to follow it up…???

  9. Why is Season 1 still available to watch if you know there is no Season 2. Netflix has become a ripoff. At least warm the audience that there is no conclusion and left up to your imagination. This is a blatant taunting and abuse of your subscribers. If we spend our time and money to watch something we should at least be given a conclusion. On the verge of cancelling. Abuse and disrespect of your members. If this trend continues you will really lose lot of members including myself. At least a couple episodes or a movie to tie things up. A total waste of time got sick an excellent written and acted show. Pathetic!!!

  10. Please make a 2nd sequel. I really enjoyed this show and kept great suspense and entertainment. I binge watched it and at the end was so disappointed it didn’t continue with more episodes or season. This i could see having another 2 seasons. Great actors and people picked for the parts. Please continue this Netflix! Green light all the way!!!!!

  13. Very unfair for the audience. So many hours invested and no ending. Not fair. Bring the season 2 quickly and finish this.
    For these kinds of series, there should be a warning that story is not finished. I would not have started watching it had i known.

  18. I’m a real movie buff. I can predict most plots, mysteries, twists. But the The longest Night has me completely hooked and mystified. I’d love to see this brilliant series get another season. Fascinating story.
    NF you could promote more, I’m sure you could get a swell of viewers and referrals to their friends once they are hooked. Like me.
    Not just another shoot me up thinly veiled show, this has serious quality plot.

  35. You know sometimes I don’t want to know the back story, I just want a decent paced show that deals with the situation at hand. We liked this show and appreciate the lack of constant flash backs to give me their back story. I don’t need character back stories to enjoy a show or appreciate the situation a character is in. Too many shows spend too much time and disrupt the main story continuity with character flashbacks. I am one of those that says give me more like this with very little back story.

  46. The show obviously has capture the audience attention. And certainly the audience wants to have all the unanswered questions answered. Who’s calling the shoots; will Raquel have her baby at 27 weeks? Will Laura survive? Also will Simon continue to kill in prison. This absolutely can not be a cliffhanger!!!!

  71. This site isn’t a Netflix site, its a review site. If you want Netflix to renew it, email them. Secondly, you have to wait for a new season because it takes time to make shows. They require a lot of time and effort. It’s a great show, I hope they renew it. It would be a real travesty if they didn’t. This is one of the best suspense shows I’ve seen in a long time. They did a really good job and honestly, there is a lot going on. Is hugo involved in ways we don’t know? Is that guy who was in the background pulling strings the head of prisons or something? How come they didn’t know that was Hugo’s daughter, they had tied up yet they have a picture with him? Lot of stuff going on. I honestly don’t agree with the assessment, I think it will be renewed. I think most of the negativity is from people who can’t appreciate a proper work, and accept it for what it is. I see it in the comments here people whining. about there not being an ending. It’s a show, it’s not a movie they’re meant to exist for more than one season. If people can’t accept that they shouldn’t watch them if it’s going to piss them off. Otherwise just enjoy it. If you want an ending, stop whinging about it, give it positive feedback, and learn to have some patience and discipline .
