This 16 episode drama has been consistently decent over the weeks, releasing with the usual two episodes on Mondays and Tuesdays.

What is The King’s Affection Season 1 about?

The King’s Affection is a historical drama. The show revolves around Lee Hwi, who finds herself in the unenviable position of impersonating her deceased brother in court. She eventually rises up to the position of Prince but finds her emotions swayed by her teacher, Ji-Un. He comes from a noble family but trouble is afoot in court.

Across the 20 episodes, The King’s Affection combines soapy melodrama with romance and drama.

Has The King’s Affection been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, KBS2 has not renewed The King’s Affection for season 2. Given the strong ratings over the weeks, it’ll be interesting to see if they actually do renew this for a follow-up.

The ratings began with a respectable 6.2% nationwide and has been growing steadily, even increasing to highs of 10.0% during episode 13. Given this is an early-week drama, that’s very impressive.

Based on this there is a possibility that The King’s Affection will be renewed. However, given most k-dramas wrap up their stories in a single season – especially historical dramas – we predict that The King’s Affection will not be renewed.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Most Korean dramas are reserved to one season and with the rare exception of ongoing Netflix shows (Love ft. Marriage and Divorce, Hospital Playlist etc.) then it seems unlikely that this one will be renewed.

  1. I Loved this show. It captivated me from the very first episode. I was soo hoping the saga would continue. It’s not often you find such an Excellent show. The main characters are amazing actors. It would be so sad if this did not continue. Please continue the story. I would rate this as a 5 star show.

The dubbing in english so well done. The costumes and sets outrageously beautiful. Please renew The King’s Affection!!

  9. The King’s Affection needs a Season 2 !! This was a brilliant production, great writing and suburb acting. Lots of room to expand the story in so many directions. And with the calibre of writing they have displayed and such a fine cast of actors, it should be another great season. They deserve some special awards for this production. And Netflix should be praised for producing such a brilliant series. Please bring us another great season of “The King’s Affection”, the fan base is enormous!

  12. Eventhough it was an awesome and wonderful ending in TKA, it truly needs a season 2 to tie up some loose ends. There is still alot of content that could be expanded into Season 2. And I am sure many are looking forward to Park Eun Bin returning in action as Princess Yeon Seon with the entire original cast in TKA2! Come on, KBS and Netflix, pls give us TKA2 – the Return of the Crown Princess!

  16. I would love to see a season two and three and four the actors and actresses are excellent and so easy to watch it was never a boring moment for me I am of Asian descent and it brought me home please let us have more seasons

  25. My husband and I waited days before we could watch the last episode because we didn’t want this show to end and knew we would have withdrawal symptoms! Of course, I cried tears of happiness at the end and we would love to see a Season 2. This was a beautiful story and the writers, actors and actresses deserve to win awards. Thank you for a beautiful, heartwarming, caring, loving movie.

  41. I absolutely loved this KDrama Netflix series. I have watched it 3 times … and will watch it again. I tell everyone looking for something good to watch about The King’s Affection and they thank me. They, too, love this series. I loved the happy ending. Since Lord Wonson was injured bad but was not shown as dead would lead us to believe that he would rise again to cause trouble for his brother who sits on the throne. The continuation of this drama in another season would be great. I give this series 20 🌟

  48. Love watching k dramas, and this one was captivating mainly because of how very different this culture was compared to the USA, but people ate still people underneath the veneer.   58. There should be a season 2 for this awesome drama! In fact there is still lots content which could be interwoven into Season 2. Furthermore, there were also some loose ends in Season 1 could be tied up in Season 2. Don’t think Wonsan is dead. Plus we need to see the main couple back in action, Hwi in her new identity as Princess Yeon Seon!

    Yes, it was a most beautiful ending one could ever ask for in a KDrama but then somehow the beach scene looks like a prelude to more palace intrigues n adventures for the 6 friends – rather a continuity than an ending 😆.

    Pls tell me – how do we write to the producers to convince them for a season 2?

    Live in Sweden and has watch the Kings Affection. It is for me and many many others a feel good series. I really want at least a season 2. Please?

    We never watched korean series before and trough this one, we watched others, but it is this we love, and I mean really love, because it’s a different story we never saw before and soooooooo interesting. So please give us more of this feel good series.

  68. I would like a 2nd season only so the actors could have the work. I loved this story and all the actors were great, but if they had a 2nd season they would ruin the happy ending.
    I have already played it out in my head on what would happen if there was a new season. There is always turmoil for a storyline. WIth that being said, they could still have turmoil and give it a happy ending again.
