The Gryphon is a dark fantasy series that is currently streaming on Amazon Prime. It’s gone under the radar due to a lot of other series being released in recent weeks but if you enjoy shows that take us to strange new worlds, you might be interested in this one.

If you have seen and enjoyed The Gryphon, you might be hoping for a second season.

But will there be a season 2? Here’s what we know.

What is The Gryphon Season 1 about?

The Gryphon tells the story of a teenager named Mark who, on his 16th birthday, learns of his family’s connection to a world known as the “Black Tower” where a terrifying Gryphon with world-ending tendencies awaits. It’s Mark’s destiny to travel to this other land as the male members of his family have been tasked with defeating the terrifying creature that lies within.

Has The Gryphon been renewed for Season 2?

At the time of writing, a second season of The Gryphon has not been announced. As a number of Amazon Original series have recently been cancelled after one season, including Three Pines, Night Sky, and Paper Girls, there is a chance that The Gryphon won’t be given a second season, despite the relatively positive reviews it has garnered.

But if a second season is announced, we will update this page with the relevant information.

What could happen in The Gryphon Season 2?

Mark’s story wasn’t over at the end of Season 1 so we would likely see him venture back into the world of the Black Tower to save humanity from the monsters that lie within that terrifying place. His best friend Memo, who travelled with him to that world, will likely also have a part to play, as will Mark’s mother who learned the truth about her son’s destiny at the end of the first season.

  3. I would very much like to see a Season 2 of the Gryphon. I binge-watched the entire season 1 in a day. It’s so hard to find cool fantasy shows like that, which are also well- made. I was very disappointed when I was preparing for the next episode, only to find that I had reached the end, particularly with so many unanswered questions.

  5. By far one of the best dark fantasy thrillers made, I was blown away. We started with the dubbed version, made it 20 minutes and restarted with the original Deutsch and subtitles. 100x better. Can’t wait for Season 2 and the Grass Plain!

  10. The story isn’t finished. The main hook for another season suggests a season 2 would be even better. Very short sighted by the producers if no season 2.

  13. Binged and figured more had to be coming since this show just started building up the characters and plot. Would be a shame to see another great show be canceled when it’s just getting started. 😞 season 2,3,4 + must

  14. This is a great show – it is a mix of The Neverending Story and Stranger Things – I love the German existentialism. I watched it both in German and in English and I found the German to be just a little bit better – this one I am telling my friends about! Get on board! Invest In another season! It will be a cult classic.

  15. This is the problem with these stream services they get you invested and then they cancel it before the story really gets good. I enjoyed this show and this will be the last time I watch a series if they don’t bring it back for more seasons.

  24. Just 2 shows in and I’m already checking to see if there’s a second season. So YES please season 2.

  26. It’s definitely worth another season. This one was surprisingly good and has some good storylines to follow-up on. I particularly like the subdued romantic tones and hope to see some continuation of the relationships.

  29. Was a pretty good sci-fi horror teen angst TV show. I enjoyed it. But let’s face it, the setup for a season 2 was pretty lame. It shows they would do the same thing if given a season 2. I think they should end this while it’s still a good ending. The main guys and girls aren’t really going to be interesting fighting the same old baddies. And frankly, none of the good guys and gals can trust each other any more because they’ve all messed each other over and thrown friendship and family under the bus several times. There would be lots of animosity toward each other which would be almost impossible to overlook.

    Let’s end this before a season 2 does the same story as season 1 with the same people and ruins it.

  36. Omgoodness I loved it. Puts me in the mind of stranger things. I hope they do continue the show it’s amazing. As u continue to watch it, it just keeps getting better. A lot of the times the episode slow down as they go on ughh. Not this one.

  41. Loved “The Gryphon” totally binged it. I hope for a season 2, it has so much potential. The soundtrack on this season was also soo so good. I really hope they don’t drop this one and continue the series, I dropped Netflix because they can’t seem to continue anything of worth and always drop good shows, I hope Amazon doesn’t follow up on the same track. Such an amazingly good show

  45. There is nothing worse than leaving a show without a decent ending, if you’re going to end it at least have a season 2 and end it right!!!!

  46. This could easily do a few more seasons. I like this show much better than stranger things for that matter. Definitely has better music. I was really starting to dig it. I hope they green light another season.

  47. The Gryphon definitely deserves another season. Interesting themes, intriguing and appealing characters grounded in [middle-class German] social reality, with credible fantasy-building. Two thumbs up.

Amazon needs to change how they pick what stays and what gos specially when it comes 5o prime their choices in things to leave on their streaming services I agree totally suck and are mostly rated z movies even their tv series choices suck. But The Gryphon needs to stay forever why us it when people like something and want more Amazon has to kill it and crush all that’s good and right in this screwed up world

  53. OMG there better be a season 2/3/4/5 play on the good/evil aspect turn the stone faced people into a kinder loving people who eventually help in defeating the gryphon? I’m sure you have ideas for the next season you can’t be just leave it where it left off.
