Surviving Summer is the latest tween drama, combining sun, sand, surfing and soapy shenanigans. With 10 episodes, each clocking in at a little under 27 minutes, this is a very easy show to slip into.

If you’ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this one’s been renewed or cancelled.

What is Surviving Summer about?

The story centers on Summer Torres, a wild child who has an estranged relationship with her mother Margot.

With a big work gig coming up, Margot ships Summer off to the other side of the world (Australia to be precise!) to stay with her family friends, the Gibson’s, while she jets off for her next career opportunity.

When Summer arrives in the tiny town of Shorehaven, she’s taken in by the Gibson family. Of course, Summer plots her escape and attempts to make it back to New York.

Despite her best efforts, Summer soon comes to enjoy staying in Shorehaven, partly thanks to forming a bond with kindred spirit Ari Gibson.

Has Surviving Summer been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Surviving Summer has been renewed for a second season. Given the ending though, that’s perhaps quite surprising. We did get a nice conclusive chapter, but it appears that Netflix have faith that this is going to be another summer scorcher for the platform.

Generally Netflix gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate per episode. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Irregulars). Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.

So far, Surviving Summer has had a pretty mixed reception from critics but generally favourable from audiences, which may well be why this has been renewed.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix have only just green-lit a sequel.

Quoting the article linked above, fans can expect the following:

  • Season 2 sees the return of fan favourites Sky Katz as the feisty Summer, Kai Lewins as Ari Gibson, João Gabriel Marinho as Marlon Sousa, Savannah La Rain as Bodhi Mercer and reigning Open Women’s Queensland Surf Champion Lilliana ‘Lil’ Bowrey as Poppy Tetanui.

For now though, we’ll have to wait and see what a new season has in store for us but this is great news for fans of the show!

    You can surf at the Rockaways in NY and that’s where Summer was (you can hear Rockaway Beach being called in the background IIRC). So Ari was on the beach with his friends again, and Summer was looking for her own surfspot back in NY. She didn’t return (yet).

  6. I watched this show all today and I want to see more give us a SEASON 2 I want to see more of the gang like poppy, summer ari and the other guy this show is amazing give us all season 2

  14. Absolutely amazing show I smiled through every episode and went to bed very relaxed two nights in a row. Hopefully they renew it. I wish there was more feel good shows like this one.

  18. Not ordinarily a soap/ drama/ teen genre fan, but this was surprisingly great. Mainly as the supporter characters are fully fleshed on their own – well-rounded characters who exist for their own stories, not just to amplify a lead. Also, feels naturally diverse without trying to be. The dramas also don’t feel like over hammed up bs, but more like real challenges and inner character trait struggles we all deal with. So refreshing watching people learning how to human well, rather than reacting with hyperbolic theatrics. Great template for young adults (vs teaching everyone to make conflict or feelings a drama). The only caricatures were the ankor club opposing team really. The others were nuanced. Also, total props to the actress playing Ari’s sister – she looked like she was having fun

  20. At first I didn’t think I was gonna like the show I put it on as a background show ended up falling in love with it NEED A SEASON 2 !

  21. The most amazing romance summer ever kinda reminds me of a good time at the beach spending time with the people u love the most 10/10 recommend watching if haven’t and totally should renew it would be disappointing to the viewers if not renewed

  30. So refreshing to watch a show with young characters that is not full of foul language and sex. Definitely needs a 2nd season. Enjoyed watching Surviving Summer!

  35. Omg I loved it please do a season 2 Netflix make all these fab shows and cut them after a season so now I get worried what to watch this was so good and would love summer to come back great family series
