What is Surface Season 1 about?

Set in high-end San Francisco, the story follows Sophie, a woman who has suffered a traumatic head injury following an incident on a boat. Plagued with extreme memory loss, she’s told by everyone around her that this was as a result of a suicide… but was it really?

Sophie is not so sure and as a result, sets out to try and piece together her life and figure out what happened. From her shifty husband James to best friend Caroline, it seems everyone has a secret they’re keeping from her.

Has Surface been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, AppleTV+ has officially renewed Surface for season 2. Given Apple’s track record for renewing a lot of its shows, that’s perhaps not surprising.

Both critic and audience reviews have been pretty mixed but the ending is left somewhat open (no spoilers here!) It would appear that the show will pick up where the previous season left off, with another twisty mystery to follow.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Not much is known about season 2 at the time of writing, given this one has only just been renewed. Given Apple’s great track record with renewals, it’s perhaps unsurprising to see that news come in.

With Apple pumping out a steady stream of content, Surface is another show to add to that list.

  5. Held my attention throughout. Sure, a bit slow at times, but loved all the mystery. So much more depth than most dramas are these days. I did not always guess what was going to happen next. (I’ve often wondered where all the good writers have gone) I will gladly watch another season! Please don’t disappoint.

    Definitely an intriguing mystery. Sophie? Tess? Who is she? Who can we trust? should we trust anyone?
    Binge worthy.

  12. Most definitely there should be a season 2,or 3,4,5,6, etc! Gugu is a favorite. Love to see her do her thing. Please REsurface SURFACE!!!!

    That was not a good ending to be sure.
    NO ONE paid for bad behavior not to mention murder.
    Need season two for clarity!

  18. Gugu ( my fav actress) , was brilliant -show a bit slow at times, but I did throughly enjoy it , defo want to see a season 2 !

  19. Episode 8 hardly satisfied Surface fans! We’ve spent a week since Episode 7 aired, excitedly wondering how it will resolve, with possible plot twists and satisfying reveals, but the last episode ends with nothing new and not sufficiently resolved! Did the writers just have fun developing the mystery and creating possible plot resolutions then get lazy and wrap it up quickly? They should be throttled and sent away. Fans probably had better ideas than they did!

  20. Came to watch for Gugu Mbatha-Raw & Oliver Jackson-Cohen as a couple (both great actors). He really does the tortured angsty roles very well. Mystery murder thrillers like this need a good plot twist so I’m hoping for season 2. The cinematics and soundtrack are gold. However, character dialogue could use more depth.

  21. I would love to see a season two!
    Gugu Mbatha-Raw is one of my favorite British actors, ever since her sort arc on MI-5 years ago.
    I also love mysteries of any kind so Surface is very interesting to me.
    I just hope the writers can pull off a really intricate solution and not one that’s completely disappointing, like LOST!🙄😒

  25. No. It was nit that great. I like Gugu and think she is a great actress, but she is carrying this show. I hope she gets better roles. This is worse than a daytime soap opera.
