Has ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Been Renewed For Season 5?

Renewed Or Cancelled?

Paramount+ is the streaming service for you if you’re a fan of Star Trek. All of the classic shows are there, as are the various movie spin-offs. All four seasons of Star Trek: Discovery are available to stream too and if you have recently binge-watched some (or all) of the episodes, there might be one question on your mind…

Will Star Trek: Discovery get a Season 5?

Star Trek Discovery is the seventh official series in the franchise and it has proven to be very popular with many. But as season 4 saw Michael Burnham restore order in the universe after defeating the Dark Matter Anomaly with her plucky crew, it might be assumed that the crew of the Discovery are able to take an extended break. Surely the universe is safe now, right? Wrong! There are always new threats to uncover and as such, Star Trek: Discovery is getting a Season 5.

According to TrekMovie, filming is imminent and for all we know, it might even be taking place right now.

What will happen in Season 5?

Little is known about Season 5 at this stage although Star Trek: Discovery director Olatunde Osunsanmi has hinted at a mix of new and old elements from the Star Trek franchise. In an interview with Screen Rant, he said:

“The galaxy’s a big place where incredible things can happen. Season 5 is shaping up to be… all I can say is that – it’s not time travel – but we go back into the past to get further into the future. There’s this old version of Star Trek that exists. And this new version that’s been created by Alex but there’s a lot of things we still love about the old version. So it’s about pulling from there… not necessarily stories or characters but more themes, and process, and how those stories are told, and applying it to what we do in the future. And that includes [Burnham’s] character and things she does as a Captain.”

An official cast list hasn’t been released yet but it can be assumed that most (if not all) of the Discovery crew will be joining Captain Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green ), including Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp), Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman), and Jett Reno (Tig Notaro).

When will Season 5 beam down onto Paramount+?

As the new series is just about to start filming (if the cameras aren’t rolling already), it can be assumed that the new season will beam down onto Paramount+ in late 2022 or early 2023. This is purely speculation as there has been no confirmation at the time of writing.

Presumably, the latest season will follow the trend of the last two seasons of the show and have 13 episodes, but again, we are just guessing.

When will the Season 5 trailer be released?

We’re unsure at this point but as the new season is only a few months away, it can be assumed that the trailer for Season 5 will make an appearance after post-production work has finished. Presumably, this could be around September or October this year.

That’s all we know for now but we will update this page when more information is released.

  1. Didn’t really like it that much … The first season was okay, the second was a flop and then the third and fourth I didn’t bother to watch. I might get into the 5th season if the acting improves.
