What is Slow Horses Season 1 about?

Slow Horses is a dark crime thriller, focusing on a group of rejected MI5 agents working in a place colloquially known as Slough House. These “Slow horses” are joined by newcomer River Cartwright, who spectacularly messes up during a training exercise.

Led by the notorious Jackson Lamb, they find themselves entangled in a big plot involving a terrorist group known as the Sons of Albion.

Has Slow Horses been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, AppleTV+ have confirmed there will be a season 2 for Slow Horses. Given the respectable viewing figures over the weeks, that’s not surprising. Apple also have a very good record when it comes to renewing their shows.

It’s also worth noting at this point that viewers can look forward to a preview for next season at the end of the sixth and final episode, so do be sure to stick around after the credits roll for that one!

What we know about season 2 so far:

Not much is known about season 2 at the time of writing, beyond the preview at the end of episode 6. For the sake of spoilers we won’t divulge that here but it would appear that season 2 may well be adapting the second book in the Slow Horses series, titled “Dead Lions.”

That’s not 100% confirmed but if it our suspicions are correct, the book synopsis gives some clues over where season 2 may go. This reads:

“In the Intelligence Service purgatory that is Slough House, where spies mockingly called the slow horses are sent to finish what is left of their careers, their boss Jackson Lamb is on his way Oxford. A former spook has turned up dead on a bus.

Not an obvious target for assassination, Dickie Bow was a talented streetwalker back in the day. Good at following people, bringing home their secrets. Dickie was in Berlin with Jackson Lamb. Now Lamb’s got his phone, on it the last secret Dickie ever told, and reason to believe an old-time Moscow-style op is being run in the Intelligence Service’s back-yard.

Once a spook, always a spook, and Dickie was one of their own. To unearth Dickie’s dying secret Jackson Lamb and his crew of no-hopers is about to go live.”

For now though, we’ll have to wait and see what Apple has in store for us, and whether they faithfully adapt the material or go in their own direction.
