What is Poong The Joseon Psychiatrist Season 1 about?

Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist is a combination of medical and period drama that looks like it’s going to be quite the delightful blend of genres. Set during the Joseon Period, the tale follows Yoo Se Poong. He’s a talented physician who practices at the royal palace. However, when he’s implicated in a conspiracy that threatens the royal family, he’s driven out of court. Eventually, he finds himself in a remote village community; a massive fall from grace for someone so prestigious.

Poong ends up helping heal a local and as a result, stays in the village for a prolonged period of time. He attracts the attention of Gye Ji-Han, a middle-aged local doctor, and takes the young physician under his wing. Rounding out the trio is Seo Eun-Woo, a young widow. What will become of this trio? We’ll have to wait and find out.

Has Poong The Joseon Psychiatrist been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, tvN have officially renewed Poong The Joseon Psychiatrist for season 2! Given the ratings over the weeks, which remained steady at around 5%, that’s great news for fans of the show.

The fact that most k-dramas wrap up their stories in a single season means this certainly comes as a surprise. Given this is a simple historical drama at its heart, with likable characters and an easy plot, we can expect this one to return very soon.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Most Korean dramas are reserved to one season and with the rare exception of ongoing Netflix shows (Love ft. Marriage and Divorce, Hospital Playlist etc.) then it’s rare to find Korean dramas like this renewed.

However, according to this article over at NME, Poong The Joseon Psychiatrist is not just returning but also airing in January 2023 too!

  2. this series is one of the rare strokes of luck among TV series that has produced a great script, witty and intelligent dialogue with talented compelling actors. For example, you can put yourself in the shoes or get excited about how the characters continue and offer the best entertainment. We are all eagerly awaiting how the next season will continue!!! Please don’t disappoint us !!! WE NEED A CONTINUING.

  4. What a horrible leave!!! why on a cliff hanger??? if there was no chance for a renewal give us our norm k drama ending so angry my fav actor Kim min Jae deserves so much more attention for this!!!

  5. J’aimerais qu’il y ait une suite, je m’attendais à voir une demande en mariage, cela aurait pu conclure le dernier épisode, mais là, je suis restée sur ma faim. J’ai pensé que peut-être , c’était fait comme çà pour lancer le 1er épisode d’une saison 2. Si çà ne se fait pas, c’est dommage !

  7. It was a brilliant series but what a ridiculous ending! If it wasn’t going to have a season 2 it should have wrapped up and finished properly in the last episode. I feel the 20 odd hours we’ve watched this series for has been a waste of time sadly, as I loved it. We needed an ending!
