Renewed Or Cancelled?
Pachinko is a gripping and utterly enthralling historical drama, based on the New York Times bestseller of the same name. This sweeping saga follows the hopes the dreams of a Korean immigrant family across four generations, with some stunning episodes along the way.
This 8 episode drama has been a real treat over the weeks and you may be wondering if this one’s been renewed or cancelled.
What is Pachinko Season 1 about?
Pachinko is a drama spanning across multiple different time periods, depicting the trials and tribulations of a Korean immigrant family. Specifically, the story centers on Sunja, whom we follow from a child all the way up to an elderly lady. Along the way, we see all the hardships and drama she’s been faced with.
We also follow Solomon, Sunja’s grandson, who finds himself conflicted over his lineage and doing what’s right for his people. He’s desperate to make it big but faces prejudice and racism along the way.
We have extensive coverage on Pachinko across the site, including ongoing recaps for all 8 episodes, which you can find HERE.
Has Pachinko been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, AppleTV+ has renewed Pachinko for season 2! Given the respectable viewing figures over the weeks, and Apple’s track record for renewing a lot of its shows, that’s perhaps hardly surprising.
However, as this story is based on a book that does have a conclusive ending, and the series hasn’t explored everything in the book, it would appear that we’ve got lots more drama to come in the future.

What we know about season 2 so far:
Not much is known about season 2 at the time of writing. In a recent interview with Variety (which you can read here), Pachinko was actually pitched as a four season show. With so much rich backstory in the book, there’s no way Pachinko was going to be able to tell all of that across 8 episodes. In their own words:
“It would be a disservice to what the book accomplished. When you think about all the characters that we have, we want to live with them and move on this journey of what a live is. So that was always the intention when we filmed the show. Our fingers are crossed for Season 2.”
Given Apple’s great track record with renewals, this is great news to see Pachinko return.

what a great series. so happy there is more to come.
Personally, I was quite disappointed with how rushed and how the book 3 abruptly ended just like that. Season 1 of the TV series does justice to provide some closure from the book. Sunja’s tale going to Korea for closure; What happened to Haruki (Mozasu’s friend) and Solomon’s possibly next great venture. I don’t wanna say too much because many spoilers. I’m just happy as it is and I don’t plan to invest anymore time.
But for TV viewers, just season 1 isn’t enough to cover 3 books/era . Would like to see what they do here especially in Season 2. I agree with you that I do not understand why they have to do the time jumps instead of following the chronological order. Episode 7 was a sign of fresh air, but it also feels like they need to give LMH (Hansu) air time to sell the series as well.
