If you’ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Well, read ahead and we’ll let you know what we know so far about a renewal.
What is Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari about?
The story takes place in a world where Saenome are tasked with sealing spirits that possess objects and pose a threat to society. These spirits, known as tsukumogami, are generally not violent, and saenome usually seal them after a simple verbal exchange.
Hyouma Kunato refuses to use peaceful methods though after a traumatic and deadly encounter with a malevolent spirit. Hyouma’s grandfather, Zouhei, suggests that he start living with Botan Nagatsuki, a young woman whose family is composed of six tsukumogami.
Hyouma accepts Zouhei’s proposal, but he’s also driven by revenge against the tsukumogami who wronged him.
Has Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari been renewed for season 3?
At the time of writing, Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari has not been renewed for a third season. Given the ending though, that could well change if it does good numbers on both terrestrial TV and international streaming platforms.
Generally with anime, the studios (in this case Tokyo MX) would gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate per episode. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer). Other times, it can take months before a final decision is made over a show’s future.
So far, Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari has had a pretty good reception with critics and audiences alike, although it’s worth noting that this one is not massively popular and has slipped under the radar somewhat with more heavy-hitting anime dropping this summer.
Based on the ending and reception though, we’re predicting that Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari will not be renewed for a third season. However, we’ll be sure to update this section with more details as they become available though.
What we know about season 3 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 3 at this point, given it hasn’t been green-lit for a sequel just yet. However, if this one is renewed, you can expect more of the manga to be adapted. In fact, the manga is still ongoing and the latest volume was released back on August 18th 2023
We’re under the impression that there will not be a season 3 but of course, we hope that we’re wrong on that front and fans get another season of this!

Yes, please !!! I came across MSM late in the summer, and have thoroughly enjoyed this anime. A good mix of suspense, action, drama, and even a bit of romance. I like the character development, and the storyline flows nicely. Reading that there probably won’t be a season 3 is really makes my heat drop. I will hang on with hope that the powers that be will go with season 3 anyway.
Espero la vrd una tercera temporada porque veo que el romance entre Hyoma y la chica está en un avance muy bueno ya que no se va tanto al grano si no que se están yendo a un ritmo Excelente, espero que salga una tercera temporada y estaré pendiente de la tercera temporada, éxito y gracias por todos los que se esfuerzan para sacar un anime , tanto como el q escribe la historia, como el que los plantea y el que realiza la animación
