Renewed Or Cancelled?
Kakegurui Twin is a spiritual prequel to the popular manga and anime series, Kakegurui. With a simple 6 episode story and a similar structure, fans should find enough to like.
What is Kakegurui Twin about?
In its simplest form, Kakegurui follows the character of Mary Saotome. We’re a year before Yumeko’s arrival at Hyakkou and Mary has just enrolled at the gambling-addicted school herself. She’s immediately enamoured by the surroundings and decides to jump head-first into this world, complete with numerous matches against different students.
If the story sounds familiar to Kakegurui then you’d be right. This is essentially a retelling of the same plot again, but this time dropping Mary into the newbie role.
We have ongoing coverage of Kakegurui Twin across the site, including our ending explained and full season review. You can check that out HERE.
Has Kakegurui Twin been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, Kakegurui Twin has not been renewed for a second season. Given the ending though, that could well change. The final shot of Mary walking away, preparing herself for the next step in her journey, could lead to further adventures.
Generally Netflix gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Irregulars) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.
So far, Kakegurui Twin has had a pretty mixed reception from both critics and audiences alike, with some criticizing the show for being too abrupt and having a similar structure to the original anime.
Despite the ending’s potential, we’re going out on a limb and predicting that Kakegurui Twin will not be renewed for a second season.
We’ll be sure to update this section with accurate details over the coming weeks and months when we know more!
What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix have not green-lit a sequel. The conclusion does open things up for a follow-up though, especially if the cast decide to return for voice acting duties and the animators choose to continue this on.
If this one is renewed, expect the story to continue on, with Mary continuing to ascend the gambling world.
We’ll be sure to update this page in the future when more information is known though!
