Has the K-drama Island been renewed for Season 2? Here’s what we know:

Gone are the days of a single-season K-drama, and as we enter 2023, fans of Korean tv shows are getting introduced to the international phenomenon of mini-series. With streaming platforms like Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video along with networks like TVing and Coupang Play, there have been a lot of K-drama titles that have released mini-series with six to eight episodes per season.

Prime Video and TVing’s new mini-series, Island is the newest six-episode thriller and fantasy drama that everyone is talking about. The webtoon-based drama first caught flame when it was revealed that idol-actor Cha Eunwoo will be playing a priest on the show. Following the initial release of the show, the K-drama started getting a lot more popularity online after it’s three-week run on the streaming platforms.

After finishing the 6 episodes of its first season, you may be wondering if the popular Prime Video K-drama, Island has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:

What is Island about?

The 2022 drama Island is one based on a manhwa (webtoon) of the same name. The TVing original tells the story of Won Mi-ho, the only daughter of her father who runs Daehan Group. Her arrogant and selfish attitude causes her to commit a mistake that leads her father to banish her to Jeju Island. At the island, she is assigned to work as a high school Ethics teacher.

However, the island is one where evil roams free but Mi-ho is unaware of what she has gotten into. At Jeju Island, she meets other individuals who together join forces to survive against evil. Mi-ho meets Ban, a half-demon half-human who is trained to hunt down demons and hires him as her bodyguard to protect her from demons that want to kill her. Mi-ho is also introduced to Yohan, a priest from Italy who is sent to Jeju Island to protect the saviour who has been reincarnated as Mi-ho.

Has Island been renewed for Season 2?

There is some good news for fans looking forward to getting a conclusion to their favourite K-drama, Island. The webtoon-based drama has been officially renewed for a second and seemingly final season which will release in February 2023.

Island is presently all over TikTok and Instagram Reels all thanks to Astro’s Cha Eunwoo playing the hot priest that all the ladies swoon over.

Officially, the network has not made an announcement for Island’s second season but fans can hope for an official statement to be made in the next few weeks. Also, expect a trailer for the second season to drop in the days to come.

What we know about Island Season 2 so far:

In the first season of Island, we saw how Mi-ho hired Ban to be her bodyguard to protect her from the demons. The demon slayer – Ban is one of the only two demon slayers along with Gong-tan. Meanwhile, Yohan is a young priest who is tasked by the High Priests from Italy to protect the saviour – Wonjeong. Meanwhile, Wonjeong has been reincarnated as Mi-ho.

Now as we look forward to season 2 of Island, we know that Yeom-ji is part of Gong-tan’s army of demons who are against humans and want Mi-ho dead. With Yohan’s brother dead, he is surely going to hunt Gong-tan down for putting his innocent brother through hell. Ban is also getting weaker by keeping himself with Mi-ho as he hunts demons and it will possibly be difficult for him to help Mi-ho.

We also know that Mi-ho has pledged to rescue Ban and will try to awaken Wonjeong within herself in order to make a barrier and control the demons from hunting down more humans. We will be sure to update this section when more details are released for the upcoming season of Island.
