Has Halo Been Renewed For Season 2? Here’s What We Know

Renewed Or Cancelled?

Halo, as you probably know already, is an adaptation of the video game series that has appeared on Microsoft’s Xbox series of consoles. To date, there have been 6 games in the series (and several spin-offs) and the franchise is expected to continue.

The series, like the games, chronicles the 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant. Master Chief (John-117) is the main protagonist and he is played by American Gods star Pablo Schreiber.

Some fans of the gaming franchise have been critical of the Paramount+ series due to the way it has deviated from the source material. Master Chief regularly shows his face for one thing, something that never happened in the games, as the character always kept his helmet on.

Still, the TV series does stay true to the games in other regards, such as the way in which it incorporates various characters from the video games, such as Dr. Catherine Halsey, Captain Jacob Keyes, and Master Chief’s loyal AI companion, Cortana (voiced by Jen Taylor, the actress who provided the voice in all of the Halo games).

If you are a fan of the show, be you a gamer or not, you will be keen to know if there will be a second series. Well, we have some good news for you.

Will Halo be getting a second series?

It has been announced that Halo will be getting a second series. Filming is set to begin in August so we shouldn’t have too long to wait before we see Master Chief and his alien nemeses, the Covenant, back on our screens again.

Original showrunner Steven Kane has been replaced by David Weiner, who previously proved worked on Brave New World, and most of the cast are set to return for season 2.

What will the next series of Halo be about?

At this stage, no plot details have been released about Halo season 2.

However, in an interview with Radio Times, Pablo Schreiber has promised that the new series will be bigger than what came before, with some “new and exciting” storylines. Whether ‘new’ means the show will deviate further from the game’s mythology, we aren’t quite sure. But at least he’s as invested in the show as the fans are. Within his interview, he said:

“The most important thing for me – I don’t want to be too specific about where I’d like the character to go – but the most important thing for me is the writing, you know, and the material.”

“To that end, we have a really, really fantastic new showrunner who’s come on board, who is taking the written material to really new and exciting places. That’s really all I can ask for, that we’re starting from a place of high-quality written material, and I’m so excited about that – to get back, and work on the season in a new aspect, and with new collaborators.”

His co-star, Natascha McElhone, who plays scientist Dr Halsey in the series, is also optimistic for the second series. In her interview with Radio Times, she said:

“I’ve seen a couple of scripts, but I guess I’m just hoping that the season that we’ve planted for the characters that you’ve seen in season 1 will just continue to flourish, and we’ll get deeper and darker into all of that.

I’m sure there’ll be a lot of new elements and new characters thrown in as well,” added McElhone. “And we have a new showrunner this year, and there’ll be a new writers room, so that will be different voices.”

Admittedly, these interviews hold no clues about the second season’s storyline but at least quality seems to be the focus.

At the end of the last episode – SPOILER ALERT – Master Chief, overwhelmed by the enemy, seemingly sacrificed his life for his team and ordered Cortana to take control of his body and mind.

As such, the question fans will have is this one: Is Master Chief still alive? Season 2 will give us the answer.

When will Halo season 2 be released?

The series will begin filming this summer so we don’t have too long to wait. We imagine season 2 will debut on Paramount+ mid-2023 but this is purely speculation at this point.

Is there a trailer for Halo season 2?
