Cyberpunk: Edgerunners expands on the lore and ideas seen in Night City and fleshes them out into a high-octane, pulsating 10 episode anime. With plenty of violence, gore and deep characterisation, Edgerunners is a blast from start to finish.

After finishing all 10 episodes, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:

What is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners about?

The first couple of episodes work to set the scene, introducing us to a street kid called David. His mum Gloria is overworked and unfortunately ends up passing away after a car accident. Grief-stricken and beaten by bullies, David decides to get implants to enhance his body. However, those implants belong to a psychotic man named James Norris and there are concerns that David could adopt some of his psychotic traits.

Before any of this transpires though, David meets Lucy and her gang. They want the implant inside of David but he compromises with them, deciding to work one gig at a time to pay them back instead. With monstrous Maine watching over the group, the show moves into a more episodic structure as David learns the ropes, is trained by Lucy and gets to know the rest of the group group, taking out targets along the way. Everything is then brought together nicely during one last mission, stretched across a couple of bombastic, high-action eps to close the show out on a high.

Has Cyberpunk: Edgerunners been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has not been renewed for a second season. And it most likely will not be as CD Projekt Red has stated that they do not plan to continue the show.

What we know about season 2 so far:

The conclusion, as mentioned above, anyway doesn’t really open this one up to an expansion unless the characters are changed and we follow different people from Night City, which is, of course, always a possibility. 

Of course, we could see a surprise renewal on the cards and be made to eat our words! A second season would certainly be welcome but as mentioned above, the makers will not be continuing the show.

But we’ll be sure to update this page in the future if anything changes!

  1. An idea for the second season would be to take into account the immortality chip , then David’s body will be shown destroyed while they implant the chip in him while they rebuild his body, thus giving an open space,

    I would also like to see how David and Lucy meet again

  2. S1 perfect great show leave it be..
    Id like to see new characters, new story options are endless maybe use the gang. Maelstrom, the voodoo Boys. T bug and dex there’s something up there lol.
    But leave s1 be I mean I loved those characters but they ended n true cyberpunk fashion

I mean it’s sad to see David die like this, yeah the meaning “To become someone/ a legend in Night City, you have to die a legend” and succeeded or not I think that David only died to save Lucy, not to become a legend so to speak. And I know that V kills Adam Smasher in the lore and all that… but! That doesn’t have to mean that David shouldn’t comeback in the Season 2 (If there ever will be a Season 2 and I hope there will be Season 2), he can comeback sure but that don’t mean he has to kill Adam Smasher or somethin like that… they could make It so it would seem that he made his promise to Lucy, that he’d take her to the Moon. And so as we already saw Lucy on the Moon, my guess is that David’s probably going to be looking for Lucy for sometime until he idk finds out that she is on the Moon already or something. I mean I looooove the anime and the story but me personally… I’m kinda disappointed that they had to part ways like that, I’d wish to see more of David if the 2nd Season comes out. We’ll I guess it’s up to the writers not me soo I guess we’ll just have to sit back and expect for something good to be released. I truly loved the story, the art, the characters, the love between Lucy and David, and everything in general, I mean sure i kinda didn’t like the ending but as much as I hated the fact that David died and Lucy had to go alone to the Moon… I really enjoyed and liked the ending and the whole Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime. As I said there nothing else to do but to wait and hope that we get what all of us desire, the release of Season 2 and either David making a comeback and getting back together with Lucy, or just having Season 2 without all that, that is if there is going to be Season 2 in the first place. I guess Im not ready to bear with the fact that David got killed after he refused Adam Smasher’s offer but still, that last shot to the head doesn’t sell it to me it don’t feel right… But it is what it is.

  5. I don’t like the idea of having a s2 I think it’s good without it and there is a possibility the s2 is bad like Yakusoku no Neverland s2 and death note after L death and ….
    It’s true I don’t want to see a second season but I have an idea that devid isn’t dead and he is So powerful so the government going to use him like it happens in Tokyo ghoul

I personally believe it would be extraordinary to see a 2nd season the way this could be done is we didn’t actually see David’s death so we can go if the assumptions and possibilities they took him in for lab tests to see how and why he lasted so long with Lucy finally disgorging this and coming to his aid or David could be sent mad and forced to hunt and kill Lucy

  7. The crazy day dreams david had of people getting heads or limbs blown off but then suddenly Guns popped out of them?? Like a lot of guns???…

    And when David was about to be zeroed he was laughing… with a bunch of limbs missing…

    The season 2 david returns plot twist might be right in front of us this whole time

    If he messes up the guy enough let’s assume and then.. well he’s rich judging by the new pad Lucy and him live in let’s say he had insurance for a private medical team… boom. Organic body mostly now. But smaller so Lucy fits better and next season is more love story and running away story plot. Meets her on the moon and then steals a ship type deal.

    Plus side timelines with the driver and all his money now.. and Lucy in the net and those missions. And just David getting into easy trouble with how bord he is recovering. Then last episodes Lucy gets herself into real trouble and he cybers up again… saves the day but is two late and we got a Romeo Juliet situation that plot twist again they both make it threw!

    You guys kno u would watch that if I wrote the screen play.

  8. tiempo: 21:18 lucy intenta hackear al villano y este corta la conexión de lucy, esta consigue su objetivo y lo que el villano ve es solo una simulación de lo que lucky logro, posterior a ello logran salvar a DAVID, para luego salir corriendo en busca del DOCTOR que le instalo por 1ra vez el implante. asi es como logran restaurar su conciencia de DAVID, luego de unos dias el villano, los logra encontrar pero con problemas de vision debido al hackeo, posterior a ello escapan de suerte en medio de explosiones, es ahi donde por EL PODER DEL GUIÓN, escapan. luego idean un plan donde puedan detener a ambas ORGANIZACIONES, usando las habilidades de LUCY, para poder al menos lograr encontrar una cura para DAVID con la finalidad de que NO SE DESCONTROLE…. lo otro seria que no mueran todos los actores y retomen HASTA EL MOMENTO EN QUE EL CREADOR DE VIDEOS que murio en el capitulo 9 el cual tenia 1 ojo detras del cuello.

  11. I hope they reconstruct David as a construct/cyborg even if he works for the corp. it gives Lucy a chance to be the main character and we watch her bring David back to his old self. Than they can develop together, David was way to good and the character love Lucy and David had was awesome sad to see it just end, someone has to be able to kill Adam smasher and it’s gotta be david

  13. I really like the concept of season 2 focusing on a different group of characters in the same city but with their own story and backgrounds.

    I also like the idea that David was some how special and might have in some form survived. Perhaps the episode one bit where he was a blur in the class room virtual meditation room was not due to a faulty head set but due to him being some how different. The second season could focus on a kid who is a David fan boy, who after a lot of hard trials and life lessons finally gets to meet what’s left of his idol and some how reunite him with his lost love on the moon. Perhaps a black Void or blank space in the computer world (David’s consciousness) leads this person to David’s remains and the means to take them to the moon.

  14. Possible hint for 3 seasons in episode 5.

    Go back to episode 5 where they are at JK’s place there is a library full of Sandy’s. We see David put no. 32 back on the shelf and you will see the following in this order.

    1.Brain Death II : 1 through to 20
    2. Edgerunners : 1 through to 32 (could be a hint for possibly 3 seasons up to 32 episodes)
    3. It’s alive not : 1 through to 3

I think it should of been one big day dream back when David first met Lucy and everything happens again but like it all goes right this time or maybe b4 they reach Lucy he day dreams it and instead they all gtfo of there instead of sticking around like they did I’d be much happier with the second season if they did make one starting off with that

I’m starting to like the idea of one of the corporations making David a construct out of his DNA against his wishes and making him work for them ect until Lucy hears about it and possibly try’s to make him remember his old self or a more unbelievable manner where smasher dies somehow by head shot with a broken ligament misfiring or a sniper of some sort like the driver kills smasher and saves David it’s sad to see a new release with that much potential only have 1 season with so much left of the story to unveil I guess we’ll have to wait and see

  18. I always felt like Lucy was the real main character.

    More needs to be made of why Arasaka were looking into the old net.
    Also, she has such an great set up as an assassin.

  19. Loved it so much, the ending couldn’t be more fitting although i’m sad we wont be seeing any more David by the looks of it..
    Perhaps they took some of his splattered brain tissue and made him a full cyborg?

Although part of my heart wants to believe that David is still alive, it was very obvious that he had zero countermeasures against atom smasher and there is no way atom smasher will decide to spare him so the fact is David is 100% dead. I would love to see a season 2 but I will even love it better if it wasn’t based on the plot of Lucy trying to get revenge. I don’t like it that David is dead but the show couldn’t have come to a better ending. It wouldn’t be a good watch to see the only survivor of the gang going back to that life after she had fulfilled her dream. I would feel a lot better if the season 2 was based on another gang coming up in night city and fighting their own battles, but then again things don’t always go as we want them to.

  21. I would love a season 2 that focuses on the time skip and fills it in. We would be able to see the friend zoning of Rebbeca and also see how David developed as a Leader!

  24. I feel like a Lucy-centric, Deep-dive season 2 would be a logical step. Have Lucy and a new deuteragonist, but rather than implants and gunshots, the season could go full on the bulk of the action focused on Deep-Divers killing people from the inside of the net (as well as expanding the Deep Dive, Old Net concept), with Lucy maybe haunted by David in her own mind, have a new partner who reminds her of him, and maybe her final revenge against Smasher in a climax that could very well be just like Stranger Things Season 4 finale (if you think of the simultaneous battle between Eleven and Vecna but with Lucy and Smasher while the other characters deal with their own share of trouble in the real world). Culminating in Lucy’s victory in keeping the new guy alive like redeeming herself for letting David die. (And hey, maybe a last-minute plot-twist, have David’s mind somehow preserved on the net, as if Arasaka wants to study his brain for new improvements on their implants)

    Now, if you guys need an extra dosage of Cyberpunk epicness with unapologetic bad guys, blood baths and compelling deaths, GO WATCH AKUDAMA DRIVE!

  27. I think David is dead. Smasher literally proposes him to become a construct (fully mechanized person) like himself – “You could make an interesting construct.” – and David tells him to flip off. After that Smasher blasts his head off. Pretend not to see it all you want but its there clear as day.

  30. On episode 7. I pre ordered the game 2 years before it finally released. I played the damn game even with all the bugs because I loved the story. Got the new Xbox finally and it run pretty good surprisingly. Replaying it again for the 3rd time even though i have little time to play and soo many games i haven’t played. This show is so good! I hope it continues.

  31. La historia quedó cerrada no creo que volvamos a ver más a estos personajes ,pienso que habrá segunda temporada contando otra historia diferente al fin y al cabo en night city hay mucho que contar y el universo de cp2077 es muy rico

  32. Didn’t see David die, bring him and Lucy back. There is still plenty of villains left between the two corps. He could become a construct and season 2 could be about Lucy bringing him back to himself leading to season 3 when they’re reunited. 3 seasons sound perfect. At least 2, anything but 1 😩
